Dammit, Bill! I cried walking to school today.

I know it's too late to quit. I'm in year 8 of a 4-year program. I have written over 250 pages of The Big Scary, and probably only need to write a few dozen more... the problem is, those are the hard ones. But I'm not sure that I will accomplish anything meaningful by finishing, other than getting some more and fancier (mixed case!) letters after my name and making some other people proud. It would also honour my partner, who has sacrificed a lot for me to follow this path. I shouldn't do this for other people, but maybe it will make me proud, too. And it's not like I've got a host of fantastic career options calling my name

HELP WANTED: Someone to surf the internet and stare out the window. Must be great at dreaming up and starting new projects; execution not essential. Some outdated computer skills are an asset. Preference will be given to middle-aged applicants who have been out of the work force for 10 years and whose training is irrelevant and/or obsolete.

Cat, I am in the same boat. Maybe mine is slightly less sinking since its not 4 years long.
About a year ago, I signed up for school along with full time job. It was a personal goal. But, damn it!!! It's kicking my ass now.
I dont even know what I want to do with it now. So lost.
I was so passionate to turn this goal into something more meaningful, when I started. Now... I jusssstttt... waaaannnntttt... to finish the daaaammmnnnn thiiinnnngggg....

Talk about fickle heart. I am very certain that my heart is just messing with my mind.
I go from one brilliant idea to another from opening a coffee shop to becoming a movie director to writing to working at a book store to global management.

If its any help, here's how I look at it. I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up. I probably never will.
But, scrambling through and attempting half-assed to find what I am looking for is sort of fun, in a sadistic way.
We make decisions based on what is right for us at a given time. There is no assurance that it would work for us few years down the lane. So, don't regret it.
Chin up, damn it!

PS: Yes, there are those happy, satisfied bastards out there. Let's just ignore them for now

My dad never completed his big scary. Even tho they referred to him Dr. anyway throughout his career, he knew it wasn't exactly true........... and we all could tell it was a real source of regret to him.
