So, who exactly is responsible for recruiting black people for the event? Noone's excluded, anyone who's interested and wants to show up is welcome. Honestly, get a life. I'm sure you can find a better use of your time than trolling the ePlaya all day.

In fact, I sold my ticket to a black burner this year. It didn't even occur to me, since I don't keep track of people by categorizing them by race, but I guess that's just me.

Yup! That was me. Glad you had a good time, and put the ticket to good use. I'll see you on the playa next year!

I've always said about the rave scene that we're all the same color under blacklight... we're all the same color when caked with playa dust, too.

I don't know about BLACK people but I sure as FUCK saw more GREEN people at burningman than I EVER see at home. Same goes for the RED and ORANGE people too. Holy Mother of Mushrooms ... who let THOSE people in?

I agree that the event is open to everyone, but the question of the lack of black people is interesting. I don't even have a theory on why there are so few on the playa. We talked about this at our theme camp during the event.

Sure it's mostly white, but not at all purposely. I feel goofy even addressing the matter. Anyone with a good attitude and their shit mostly together is welcome. Oh yeah, a ticket helps too... If you're concerned about representation, set up "African American Camp" next year and see how colorfully that's received.

Okay my best guess here is that you're a troll and not a particularly pretty one, like the ones I put all over my stolen bike, but this just begs an answer. No black/african american people? Where were you camped, you should have been sitting around the burn barrel in Kidsville, you would have met some really beautiful people, yep. Wish I knew how to upload my pictures of Monique and her wonderful little sweetie pie daughter who was one of my absolute favorite fellow campers this year. No black people, sheesh.

This is only the second post I've read here on e-playa and sadly, considering this is two for two, I'm starting to worry things may be as suckish here as the kind of things one would find on the boards over at aol. Damnit, and I was so hoping to find a home away from my playa home here : ( I'll keep trying...

This is pretty much a moot point. Black people on a whole are well represented on the Playa, so please pick another subject.

You just need to put Caucasian on the ticket application form and they'll accept you right away. They have no way of checking whether you're telling the truth or not anyway.

Met beautiful dark man on Sunday pm!!!

Post by Diane » Mon Sep 20, 2004 5:18 pm

so what if the majority of folks that come to the burn are not of afro-american decent? why would you care? is that necessary for you to have a good time? I actually saw more dark people this year than I did last year. People are people and those that need to separate them by color have problems in todays society. Not what this community is all about.
The responses here are amazing from funny & happy to trollhating and abusive. I would go for the abusive most of the time (it is my style...) but I have to agree the beautiful man I met at night was so covered in dust it didn't really matter if he was black or white! he was just beautiful and hugged me tightly.
And yes, my campmate, Otto was a "RedMan" on the night of the burn which was very cool for me to see and fun for him! So cool to see people all sorts of colors than just the usual ones we see in the "real" world!
So nignog, plz stroll away you bad little troll and go eat some dead bugs under the log you crawled out from under - you won't win - our community is very strong and united.

See the problem is that the people manning the barricades that keep the colored people out are just turning them away. That never works.

You've got to shoot them. That way, they won't be getting on-line to complain.

Jezz, you'd think Larry would put more into the minority exclusion budget.

Comparing Burning Man to a Country Club is absurd. A Country Club or organization that excludes undesireables does so by either refusing entry, or admission to that community; Burning Man on the other hand only requires that you purchase a ticket to enter. The only fault I place upon the BMOrg is that perhaps they should reach out more to the African-American community, but I'm not sure if that is their responsibility alone. As active members of the community, if we want more participation from African-Americans then there should be some responsibility for us to recruit and introduce Burning Man to them. We can't keep pointing fingers at BMOrg or at other people, if we want a more diverse playa, we have to take responsibility for it.

I think BMOrg's only goddamm responsibility is to put up a wooden stick figure and burn it. Whoever the hell wants to show up and see it burn is welcome to do so.

Well, maybe nignog (who seems to have a lot of free time and doesn't trust the LLC with money) should do some fund raising and commision a study (what will all those pollsters be doing in December anyway?) on why African Americans don't attend. Then she can start a little outreach project as her gift to us all.

:D harlem, by far. but, since you're so obsessed with this race crap, i'll drop a note to rev. al sharpton or jessie(hymietown) jackson. we'll get some real bottom feeders from the ACLU, start with sueing the organization, move our way up to the individuals like mr. clean, maid marion, harley, tony perez, and cap it off with mr. harvey. after we bankrupt the whole organization and burningman is cancelled, YOU can start a more "race-friendlier" burningman all by yourself--are you satisfied? get a freakin' hobby to occupy your time, 'cause bitching dosen't count.
