But last year's theme was based on Paradise Lost.

I'm pushing for Urbi et Orbi To the city and to the world. And name the streets after the 7 hills of Rome. Everyone will forget them all anyway.

Or just do a back formation from the street names. If we went with: Kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, species--what's the theme?

Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, South America, North America, Antartica?

Still working on a set that starts with Pre-Cambrian as the outermost road, goes through The Mesosoic, The Modern Era and ends with The Future is Here!

The Elements:

Theme art including fountains for water, fire (gotcha covered), kites/aeolean pipes/windspinners for air, and sculptures for earth.

Streets: Esplanade, Salt, Earth/Prithivi, Metal, Mercury, Water/Apas, Wood, Antimony, Fire/Agni, Sulphur, Lightning, Air/Vayu, Æther, Akasha. Give the spoke streets alternate names for the Periodic Elements.

We're thinking of basing our camp on Hieronymous Bosch's Garden of Earthly Delights (credit to Shaman for that one), which just about covers everything no matter what the theme, and makes for great costumes and camp activities.

Love the "Still working on a set that starts with Pre-Cambrian as the outermost road, goes through The Mesosoic, The Modern Era and ends with The Future is Here!" idea. Tyrannosauruses in F-14s!

I kind of like the theme of that camp from 2002 where they made the documentary ...

If it is true that 50% of the community in '04 were newbies and a lot of long-time burners are complaining about the lack of a sense of community, maybe an inward focus would get us focused back on what we are there for ... each other.

i think the perfect theme would be "DEATH". there's a lot that encompasses it. the break down of physical entity, the visuals, the reflection, the disease, etc. the phoenix.

think of all the cool 'dark' installations, costumes, etc. it could bring back some energy and very interesting art. turn the city into a funny and spooky place for a week. (mental images of Elvis fallen of pot, scooby doo, etc. -- well, maybe not scooby doo)...

Boo on death, necessary though it is in the cycle of life. How about Immortality instead? There's both the light side (eternal life, Godhood etc.) and the dark side (the undead, vampires, etc.) to that.

I think it should be something like lost on Gilligan's Island. It would bring back ships, island attire, fish again, palm trees, dust storms would work, tiki huts. This could be a fun one where everybody is abandoned on an island (playa) and acts lost or take control. The fashion show could be alot of fun too with "this is what I looked like after my ship sank" "What's that smell" Amazing what you can make out of leaves or fruit, "Hey this island I came from only has snow" etc.

Once again, It could be fun!

Too much like TV, survivor or not. There's a new network show premiering soon, "Lost" about a plane which crashes on a desert island. Silly premise.

"Uh, Fred, wasn't it YOUR turn to pack the black box?"

Too bad the vault of heaven didn't include more Lost in Space reruns. No palm trees, less cross dressing, but way more cool explosions and alien costumes.

How about "When We Were Six"? yes an obvious tip o' the hat to AA Milne, but it could conjure up lots of ideas about the innocence of youth and how we reacted to stuff as wide eyed carefree children before social conditioning reared its ugly head. ('sides I'd love to visit Camp Honeypot")

Surreal Lush bar Pooh moment: meeting guy in Tigger costume, talking, then another guy in Tigger costume comes up, says there's not room for two Tiggers on the playa. I think they went off to Thunderdome for a catfight.

Just got the word from the author of the new book, "This Is Burning Man." They had a reading at Powell's on Hawthorne in PortlandOREGON tonight.

Someone asked him, "What's the theme this year?"

He replied: "Dreams and the Unconscious."

And immediately thereafter, three people jumped up and straight out the door, wickedly inspired grins plastered all over their kissers.

unfortunately at six, i was walking on crutches... until i was 10 or so...

additionally, i believe most people do revert to some child-like, as well as, child-ish state at burning man... and that is fine with me.

and finally, social conditioning is actually a pretty good thing... of course, there is "good" and "bad" conditioning... yet, the lack of any social conditioning (ferrel children) isn't a desirable state of existence... for the individual or the society
