Well, I just ate breakfast, but thinking about biscuits can make me forget about all that...

Canadians tend to use "biscuit" and "scone" interchangeably, even though we suspect that their might be a difference, and we never use "biscuit" to mean "cookie," unless we're francophones. This cat is not a francophone, no matter how hard she wishes it were otherwise.

TPBM can explain the difference between biscuits and scones.

I dunno. I use one recipe which is called "biscuits" in the book, but the product is what my family always called "scones." It's probably more crumbly than flaky, but that might just be a reflection of my (lack of) technique. I do tend to call them "scones" when serving them with jam and cream and "biscuits" when serving them with soup or stew, but that's a reflection of function rather than form.

It could be that having all these competing British and American linguistic and cultural influences just dooms us to developing imprecise vocabularies and inconsistent spelling habits.

EDIT: Fishy beat me. Ouch, Fishy! That really hurt!

Your definition of francophone made me giggle. And now I'm picturing a bunch of Quebeckers dusting off their Ouija Boards and their French-Spanish dictionaries...

TPBM played with an Ouija Board as a kid.... and spooky events ensued.

Fishy, I'm not quite sure this is a case of Godwin's law applying, as you didn't actually compare anything/anyone to the Nazis.

Also, I'm not sure that the realization of Godwin's law necessarily ruins a thread. It's just a thing that happens. If this thread continues infinitely without such a comparison arising, that might in fact indicate that it's not really an internet discussion.

TPBM has a corollary of Godwin's law that applies specifically to ePlaya.

Fuckin' A... yeah right: "you're doing it wrong!" - most comparisons to the Nazis or Hitler are made by people who are just trying to emphasize that you are doing it wrong.

TPBM thinks that's full of shit too.

Um, no. If you want to pin a decade on me, it's probably the 70s. The early 70s. Although, I was faux into the village people for camp value in the 80s. So, when I'm ahead of the curve I'm way ahead of the curve. In twenty years Russian/Soviet music will be... Known by a few pretentious geeks...

I have (a) a partner who sings "The Hairbrush Song" around the house, and (b) an internet addiction, so... yeah, definitely a fan of VT!
As for pretentious geeks.... well, I guess it's possible that I've completely misread Ygmir, but I don't think that sounds like him. :?:

Sadly no, I do not. I am awful at mailing anything out. I probably have 2-3 boxes I am meaning to send to various people at my house and they have been there awhile.

tpbm is ready to shut it down for the day.

I'd never heard of them until now. Now I have. I won't be seeing that movie theatrical extravaganza. I have to, uh... get a root canal that day. *starts chipping away at tooth*

What's odd is that in 6 episodes, they managed to touch on 3 ePlaya memes -- Bass-heavy EDM, problem clowns, semi-nudity (hatcocking: the new shirtcocking?) -- and still not make me laugh.

TPBM thinks maybe the problem is not the comic but my sense of humour (or lack thereof). "Seriously," s/he is saying, "that one with Death in the witness stand and the lawyer talking about him in Pig Latin is hilarious."

I dunno. I hope I"ve given up on the need to have the people I like the things I like. And then, I'm not wild about the Fusco Brothers, it was just the first thing I could think of that had the right amount of improbability...
tpbm also has the cd Fla-Mundo, and knows what to think of it.

I've never heard of it. I'm going to find out what I think of it just as soon as the various video and audio things I have opened and paused in other tabs have all had their chance.
