RENO SHOWER before and after Playa???
I've read many places that renting a room in Reno (or some other NV town) the night before the event, and the night after, is great because you get to take a shower before the desert (or before traveling back home).
However, as I am traveling solo from NYC to BRC, my costs are already adding up, and I'd like to be thrifty where I can. So...
-Is there any way to get a shower in Reno before/after event without renting a hotel room?
-What about hotel fitness centers (or just health clubs) in the area: anyone ever buy a "day pass" to "work out", and just use it for the showers?
-Local truckstops where you pay to shower?
-Befriending burners, and asking to use theirs?
I KNOW that I will want a shower when I arrive in Reno after 3.5 days on Amtrak, and I KNOW I will will want before getting back on the train...but do I really wanna pay $100 a night for that shower?

Re: RENO SHOWER before and after Playa???
Actually, just found a gym in the area that offers "guest passes: $15" for guests to work out for a day...
However, I wonder if local gyms would be wise to my scheme: would they turn away apparent "burner", or even just all guests altogether, the week of the event?
Gotta be that someone else has thought of this same method for taking a shower, and I wonder if the gyms frown on it...

Check out the Barbie Death Camp hotel deal at the Sands. Stay a night in Reno at least after exodus and shower and eat and decompress.

Currently on the hotel site, but unsure how to find that deal...Check out the Barbie Death Camp hotel deal at the Sands
Do I call the hotel and ask specifically about that deal?
"Hello, Sands Regency Hotel and Casino, where every day is your LUCKY day!"
"Um, yes, hi...um, do you offer a deal for, um, 'Barbie Death Camp'?"
*click*
Just kidding...I am sure they get reservations under all sorts of camp names...just wanted to ask if I need to contact the hotel, or the CAMP itself?

Googled . . .
Barbie Death Camp hotel deal at the Sands eplaya 2012
and it got me this:
http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic. ... 84&t=54879
Googling with eplaya in the keywords gets you a wealth of stuff. In this case, I added the year, because Doc is nice enough to engineer this on a yearly basis and I didn't want an old thread.
Next time I am not going to put the link in, because I want to encourage your craftiness.

Re: RENO SHOWER before and after Playa???
thanks so much-- i will remember that for sure (adding "eplaya" to searches)
thanks for the link, gonna jump on that! in looking at the hotel, realized their rooms are dirt cheap WITHOUT any deals ($40/nite is unheard-of by NY standards)
thanks again--gonna investigate, and then possibly book

A good way to read these forums is use the "check new posts" link. That will show you the most current and talked about subjects which many times include good immediate info..

Re: RENO SHOWER before and after Playa???
well, Dr. Pyro, you may be waiting a Looooooooooong time for that one: I am vegan--happily, and hopelessly.
One might say there's a snowball's-chance-in-the-DESERT of that one happening
oh, and, um, I don't drink either. so i'll be sipping seltzer at the meet and greet.
believe me, i am one of the wildest, loudest, zaniest vegan-tee-totallers you'd ever meet. i am NOT a wet blanket

The truckstops offer showers for ~$10 and they provide the towels. However, some check for a CDL because they don't want the truckers who are on a short time frame to wait for showers.

Nah; I am way too vanilla for any of that.Well, in that case, you can feel free to cater the orgy.
Just your average non-drinking, non-drugging, committed monogamous vegan burner who likes to go to bed early, or stay in on Sat. nites and watch Seinfeld DVDs.
Sorry.

Re: RENO SHOWER before and after Playa???
Last year one of our camp vegetarians succumbed to the lure of bacon. It could happen to you too.
Glad you found a cheap hotel (actually it's pretty easy in Reno, as you found out). I was stoked to find a $99 hotel room in NYC!

Re: RENO SHOWER before and after Playa???
I know a Burner vegan who now does bacon and sardines. Thanks to the playa . . .
Bacon is a gateway drug.

Ah, and as with all gateway drugs, the strategy is to "just say NO".Bacon is a gateway drug.
(I'll be living it up with my pickles, canned green curry, fruit leathers, and peanut butter--getting my salty and sweet on!)

Pickles are so good out there. Especially ice cold.

Re: RENO SHOWER before and after Playa???
One of our vegetarians brings some veggie bacon, which I had on the playa for the first time last year (note: my meat-eating boyfriend like this brand enough that he'll eat it instead of real bacon). Good, but not a pickle.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Pickle.
(of course, I have pickles for midnight snacks at home, so I might be biased...)
