BRC Map and Events Guide
2011 was my (and my husband's) first burn. We're headed back this year, for certain, but under different circumstances than last year. This year we will be volunteers.
I loved the "care package" they handed us at the gate. It included the map, the events guide book, and some stickers, etc. Even though we did not make it to most of the stuff we set out to do, it was fun to try and find things, or to even just see what was going on in the city each day. Plus the map made a really nice memento.
My question is this:
We plan to arrive before gates open to help with set up. So... how do we get the goodies? Do they have them at playa info? Or is that something you earn waiting in line during ingress?

You will still pass through the gates and pass the greeter's station as you enter. Unless you'll be getting there extremely early (more than a week), it should still be given as you arrive.

Yay! I enjoyed the greeters. And the gate staff. (They don't get enough credit just because they don't give you hugs.) Glad to hear I'll still get to see them and get my reading material for the week.
Thank you for such quick replies.

And, because there are two of you, and always depending on how you interact with each other on playa you have to opportunity to put one set of the materials in a ziplock and save it and have it pristine when you get home.
If you're into that.

Not if you are REALLY early. And not if you arrive in the middle of the night. My last few arrivals have been at about 3:00am Thursday morning (early arrival); never seen any greeters then.jkisha wrote:Greeters are there greeting and handing out all that stuff for early arrival too.
You can send someone up to greeters after opening and get packets.

Yes. Greeters begin greeting officially on Wednesday pre-opening. However, there are Greeters there on playa even earlier building the Greeter's station and collating the handout materials. One of the reasons we start so early on is that we can assist incoming registered theme camps by communicating with their placement staff to meet them at their site.
Martini Steve is correct (and sexy)- if you miss being greeted, you are always welcome to come out to the Greeter's station.

Today's "Don't Take Thing for Granted" moment.

Much of it! Our "build" is more about setting up the triangular tent "beacons", unloading the containers that live at the work ranch, etc....

I will know more about it after this year as I have usually gone in on Wednesday but this time will be there the Saturday before.Mojojita wrote:Much of it! Our "build" is more about setting up the triangular tent "beacons", unloading the containers that live at the work ranch, etc....

If you are there early, come out to the Greeters Station on Sunday night for the opening. Usually an impromptu party.Mojojita wrote:YMartini Steve is correct (and sexy)- if you miss being greeted, you are always welcome to come out to the Greeter's station.
Though with the soft opening it's a little less exciting

Brilliant! Last years got all bent and wrinkled being thrown in our packs all the time. Plus I think I got apple sauce on mine. I am "into that." There is so much that you see and forget over time, it's nice to read through and remember "oh yeah, we saw that too."theCryptofishist wrote:And, because there are two of you, and always depending on how you interact with each other on playa you have to opportunity to put one set of the materials in a ziplock and save it and have it pristine when you get home.

We might just sneak away and try to come check it out. Everyone loves a party. Especially an impromptu one.SnowBlind wrote: If you are there early, come out to the Greeters Station on Sunday night for the opening. Usually an impromptu party.
