BDC & WB 2nd Annual Chili Cook Off

Post by maryanimal » Mon May 14, 2012 1:40 pm

Ok folks! I'm organizing the 2nd Annual Chili Cook Off at the wonderful, and magical Barbie Death Camp And Wine Bistro this year, and I'm looking for a few good chefs to wow our collective palates with their award winning chili!

Any kind of chili is welcome (as long as it's edible and legal)! Beans, no beans, meat no meat, red, green, or white, whatever you want to make! And what a treat it would be to meet you all and share a bowl of delicious chili goodness! Plus there will be prizes!! (OooOooohhh, Aaaaahhhhhh)

You can email me at maryanimal12 at hotmail dot com! Drop me an email and hang out with some of the elite chili chefs on the playa!

It's ok to post in here! I'd like to hear some good memories of chilli cook off's past: on the playa or elsewhere!

Few questions- what day will it be and how big of a batch needs to be made. I am giving it some uber thought If I can work out the logistics of it.
maladroit- Burning Man is like a second job, except you pay to work there.

I'd like to enter, too! I'm very proud of my vegetarian chili.
The only thing I need to work out is how to get a large stock pot from here to Reno on an airplane. I'm pretty sure it's too big for my luggage...
Oh, and does anyone know if I can expect to find okra in the Reno grocery stores?

Can it be made ahead of time, frozen ann then finished off on site? Mine involves hand cubing pounds of bottom round, so not really doable in the dust.

yes, yes... you can find okra and a large stock pot any time of the day at walmart or any such place.
Dont bring the stock pot. Buy a cheap one when you get to Reno.
I am not sure how much time you have in Reno, but its totally workable (and I can help if needed)

Thanks, wh..sh! I'll have a day and a half in Reno, and a rental vehicle, so I should be ok on the shopping front. I thought I might end up buying a stock pot. If I get one that's reasonably heavy with a secure-fiting lid, maybe I can use it as a MOOP container for the remainder of the week. Hopefully, I can find a good home for it after the burn.

I am happy to help, anyway I can.

wh..sh has a good idea. Walmart has a nice ceramic coated 7-qt stock pot with a lid for about $11-$12. All anyone had to is make a gallon of chili for the cook off. You can make it before you get to the playa, or make it the same day! Thanks for the info wh..sh!

Whatever is easiest for you! Shall I put you down for the cook off VC?
