¡Hola! soy de Los Angeles.
Free hugs for lady thugs. I am scott_k. I have burning since I was 16. However, I was not able to make it home for the first time until I was 19. That was in 2011. Now I'm 20, and looking forward to majoring in pre-med physiology coursework at UC Santa Barbara thanks in part to the dream-realizing focus that I was able to bring back to the default world from my initial playa experience last year.
I am a jazz musician. I play the upright bass and the drum set. This summer I intend to teach myself how to DJ. I'll be the guy spinning Charles Mingus at the 2013 burn. I am working on several Burning Man projects, but I'd rather not share the details right now.
As of today, June 9th 2012, I still do not have a ticket for the 2012 burn. I am at the 12:20:46 timestamp in the STEP queue, but if STEP doesn't come through, it's still face value or f**k off. Burning Man changes the way I look at life on a daily basis, perhaps on a minute-by-minute basis. However, I must admit I strongly dislike bacon. You couldn't pay me to eat a single bite of bacon. Not even if I ran out of gas in Gerlach.
*rolls around in e-dust and gives the greeter an ambiguous compliment that doesn't really make sense*

Oh dear. Simon got here first. That means apologies are already in order....
Just want to say "Welcome", Scott.
Mingus definitely has his place out there.
As does a standup bass. (if you can find one you don't mind getting a bit trashed)
Best of luck to you in your search. Don't give up.

Hi Scott!
Bring an upright bass out there sometime, will you? One that won't break your heart when it gets dusty and @#$%ed up, I mean. I've seen a million DJs and can't keep 'em straight in my mind, but an upright bass I would remember forever!
Good luck in STEP.

Re: ¡Hola! soy de Los Angeles.
While I would LOVE to bring my exceedingly awesome 7/8 carved upright to the playa, the elements will thoroughly destroy it. I really want to get one of those $13,000 indestructible carbon fiber basses (I would rather save for this instrument than waste resources on a cheap upright that will maybe last 8-10 hours on the playa).
Also, one can pull off advanced pyrotechnic effects with carbon fiber instruments that are impossible with wood instruments.
As a devoted materialist gearslut, I've come to realize that the decks allow one to 'perform' (in a watered-down fashion of the term) any number of genres (or combinations thereof) all at once, with a set-up and soundcheck interval of about five minutes. Furthermore, it all fits in a shiny metal playa-resistant box, and I really like shiny things.... and boxes. I enjoy electronic music from time to time, and I love Amon Tobin's music, but for the most part I find [electronic music] redundant and unfulfilling. No disrespect if that's your thing. However, my tentative goal with DJing is to take up stage time that would otherwise be allocated to electronica DJs. Jazz is where it's at, though I remain open minded.
Hell, I'd even spin the Spice Girls if Simon requested it.
*scratches balls conspicuously*
*megaphone* Nice to meet you all; give yourselves a round of applause.!!
