I use a civil war style bullseye canteen. I used hot water and honeycomb to seal the seams inside (sweetwater). Outside is covered in blue wool, to soak with water for evaporative cooling. I also have a canvas desert bag they used to hang in front of car radiators or off the bonnet of a Hudson. I am looking for an army Lister bag that has spigots. My gas buggy has one bottle holder, my electric buggy has two holders. Each of my bikes has one. I have a 5 gal. Igloo and a 3 gal. Rubbermaid. I carry a 2 Liter Camelback when exploring. I have 2 five gal. showerbags. I bring in gallon jugs which I fill my bottles with, then buy ice to fill jugs and place in 4 Coleman boxes (after removing canned goods and snacks). I bring in two cases of sodas in the Igloo and Rubbermaid, I put ice in to chill cans on playa. I have an insulated beer wheeled tote that holds 2 cases of Bud...yes, Bud. I also bring 2 cubes of PBR's for the cast of characters. Rechecked my water and booze containers today, ready to go.

edit: Yay, 1100 posts and TOP.

Just vacu-sealed 15 pounds of Rocky Mountain Pride, Apple Smoked, Apple Cider Cured Bacon. Thick cut...in the freezer and safe.

The dogs went berserk while I was packaging it. Hard to not cook some up, what a great smell it has. I will be at 3:30 and J again this year, with my deer jerky and raspberry jam. I am so domestic....so I am told. Stop by.

I love the playa friendly feathers. Great idea :D

It's so hard to fight the urge to buy more things for BM next year. I'm moving in August, so right now I need to reduce the amount of stuff I have to move. As I sort through things, I'm keeping to some things to repurpose for BM...

Today's 'find' ... A big red polar fleece bathrobe that I havn't used for years. Oh.. The things I can make from that. :)

I go on Tuesday to sign the lease for my new apartment :D I got a huge 3 bedroom apartment a 5 minute walk from a beach. Once I move, I will be able set up a dedicated craft room.

mgb, I'm sure you've seen this, but on the off chance that you haven't (or that you haven't seen it in a while, and have forgotten about it), here's a video that kind of illustrates your story. Plus the dog looks a bit like Stinko.

Cat, I love that video. I can do almost all of it, in the correct voice. I drive my friends nuts when I get started. Bacon? The Maple bacon? I went to a food auction last night and found this great bacon in 15 pound boxes. I also got some gourmet smoked turkey, Korean smoked eel, and some nice pork "filet". I did give the "kids" some of that turkey.....Jury is still out on the eel, I may bring it to the playa also. Marinaded, smoked/pickled eel. Haven't had the chance to open one of the packs yet.

Multiple items in one day---

Set up my new google docs for this year, i.e. packing list, shopping list, etc.

Got paid last week so went and spent some Yen at the Japanese Workman's Store.

Got some toe socks, the workmen's boots (that wont fit around my fat calves), a cooling collar (will go get 3 more when I return the boots), a new gadget keeper for my work belt (will easily hold my flask and other essentials), a work vest with lots of pockets, and a light saber.

It's not a real light saber, but a long neon colored flashlight stick that road workers use to direct traffic. Ultimately cool.

All for around Y4800; about $60 American. One day closer to being dusty.

Also started wearing in the new boots I got for my birthday. Took me two hours of painful feet to figure out that replacing the existing insoles with my prescription ones make my feet feel better. Wouldn't be so bad if I hadn't fractured one of my big toes 6 weeks ago.

If Amazon would stop losing my shit, I'd stop losing my shit and get some shit done. shit.

On the upside, my new 13 Amp Milwauke Reciprocating Saw showed up. I'll use it off playa to trick out some cool projects for the burn. :P
I'm the MAN in a truck, burner who is stuck, you're in luck! I'll whip out my BIG tow chain and not charge you, not even one lousy buck!

Just remember ... You won't have a vacuume on the playa to shrink it back down. Make a plan ahead of time for how it willbe packed to return to defaultia. I made that mistake before ... They say you can roll it to get the air out, but it doesn't shrink as much as with the vacuum .

I have not yet tried this, but I have one of those double action piston air bed pumps. My plan was to cobble up an adapter and use the air bed pump to draw the air out.

People have been talking about useing bleach wipes when cleaning dishes.

Instead of taking a chance of getting sick, heres another way.

This means cleaning your dish the second you finish eating.

Wipe the dish clean with a paper towel.

Then have a spray bottle mixed 50/50 with rubbing alcahol and water.

Spritze the dish and wipe with a second paper towel.

Done. 8)

Depends on space of course but we got a battery operated vacuum at a second hand shop and we plan on bringing it for a once over for the bed and tent at night before we go to bed. That would probably work on the space bags too. They are pretty small and a little bit of a luxury I guess but nice if it is a particularly dusty year. Not good if you are flying or Amtraking it in but driving, maybe with the space you save on the bags, you would have room and a relatively dust free bed every night too:-)

Thanks for the impulse to look up the toxicology of isopropyl alcohol. I always assumed it was unsafe to ingest in any quantity, my knee-jerk response was to recommend switching everclear or vodka for the rubbing alcohol in your dishwashing spritz. Now I see that the trace amount left after evaporation is relatively safe. Again, thanks.

Crypto, what an awesome video. Very well put together. Gross as shit, just the kind I like. So, I can toss a bunch of dead horse heads out there and get eels? Kinda like in the islands, hang a dead rabbit or chicken overboard and get crab dinners. I swear I am going to open a package of this eel, but really, it does look like it has been eaten once already. MDF, I have cannonades to protect my plunderable treasures. 3 blocks? I can just see y'all crawling down 3:30 at 2 AM already. Just made 11 jars of raspberry jam again tonight, good spring crop this year. The fall crop won't come in til after I get home in Sept.

Our town's Portuguese festival was on our block this year with the stage set up 60 feet from my house, so I got to practice being bombarded by very loud music I don't particularly like (I don't hate it, but 12 hours of music I didn't understand one word of gets old fast).

Made some more progress on the utility belt.

Made "the master list" of crap that we'll still need to get, the grocery list, Costco list, etc. I took last years list, that I had made notes on of what was used, what was needed more of etc, this years shopping is going to be a breeze.

Plus, I ordered a bunch of new elwire, and led strings...more blinky crap!!

I got my flat tire fixed; replacement tire on wheel, new stem and balanced for 9 bucks. Bought a new watch for 20 bucks, I got tired of replacement button batteries failing in my old watch. Got 60 hours and 90 days put on my cell phone for 20 bucks. I got a couple of battery tender cords with 75 Amp inline fuses for 15 bucks. I can use my 6 new 6 volt cart batteries to set up a bank charged by my 80 Watt, 12 Volt solar 4 panel array. I am bringing my 2 stroke buggy instead of my 36 Volt one. I have a 12 V battery solar tender to charge camp/ buggy 12 volt battery . I think I should get some 1 into 3 cigarette lighter adaptors to run my 12 volt camp appliances...frig, lights, fan, etc... I already have some cords, adaptors, and battery clamps and cables. I put rechargable batteries in my multi-band radio and motorolas. I need to get some more 2 stroke oil. I have a 8 oz. bottle, enough for 3+ gal. 50 to 1.( 128 oz. per gal. divided by 50 to 1 = 2.56 oz. oil to 1 gal. gas.)

Filled up with 20 bucks gas. Bought 45 bucks food. Priced inverters/converters but did not buy. Failed to find solar controllers in box stores. Failed to find metal ramp ends. Made appointment to see Dr. in 2 weeks to get 3 month supply of meds. Phlebotomist was gone from clinic today on family emergency, so I will get my blood work drawn tomorrow. filled up 2 five gal. water jugs to check for leaks. Put my electrick buggy on charger set for 12 hours because I ran them down on joy rides.

Summery; spent 129 bucks on stuff and ate 1/2 apple pie for lunch. And I ran down batteries by joy riding. Weeeeeee!

Finished and dyed the leather portions of my utility belt.

Dug my flask out, cleaned it up and took a pic:

Carved and tooled leather cover with uv reactive paint. Symbol also glows in the dark, but that will most likely not work on the playa.

For what its worth, my sister went and got a real cheap $35 dollar digital at wal mart. It actually takes pretty good pictures between 1ft and about 60ft away.

Thanks, but that is a really simple design that took minimal skill and only 3 tools. It is really easy to learn, just takes a bit of practice. I have PM'd you the URL of my online instructions for leather carving in case you want to try it.
