What do you mean, name changes?
I wanted to make sure that the thread announcing any username changes didn't get swamped with banter and conversation, so I'm being a jerk and keeping that locked.
Instead, feel free to discuss name changes here. Is your ePlaya username also your playa name? Is it close? Way off? Mine's pretty close, I go by Trilo (pronounced try-low) both on the playa and in defaultia.

Re: What do you mean, name changes?
I like finding out that you go by Trilo in defaultia! That's just fun. Also, I'm bad enough with names, so I like not having to remember two.
Me--I'm Savannah by birth, and Savannah pretty much everywhere.

In default I go by my given, Rob. For fun events I go by Saji, (saw-jee) or sajitaki if I'm trying to be formal.

Re: What do you mean, name changes?
When signing up, it was pretty much a toss-up for me between my internet handle and the nickname I anticipate using on the playa. Unfortunately, the flipped coin favored the name nobody can spell and most can barely pronounce. Even though I genuinely like it as an identifier, I regretted choosing "ensimismada" before even my 10th post here.
So, I added the other nickname to my signature. That was easy.
Trilo, might I suggest a possible solution? I've seen other online boards put "formerly <old username>" or "AKA <old username>" under the current user name, right where yours says moderator. This might draw more attention to the fact that a name change is possible and thus make more work for the mods, but I think it would reduce confusion...

Re: What do you mean, name changes?
When I signed up here, it was before my first time out, and I didn't have my Playa name yet. So, I used my regular internet name "Ultratang7". Then I was gifted the name "Chief Steamboat Chilli" by the Black Rock Yearbook people. So, I'm going to use "Chilli".

@junglesmacks - yes, though that one's been dead for a year and has nothing to do with username changes.

Wow, I didn't even know I could change my nickname. You mean I could have been impersonating Vargaso this whole time?!

Re: What do you mean, name changes?
I think I was on ePlaya before I ever went to Burning Man. By habit, I was JayceRochester pretty much everywhere online. But in 2010 I definitively changed my Playa name to Zhust. So stop calling me "Jayce" all the time, dag nab it!

I like the name, I imagine it as sounding like the z gets pronounced like Zsa Zsa Gabor's name, and it rhymes with just. Am I close?

Holy shit: you're the first person who got it. In person, I just say "just" ... if I say "zhust" (one syllable, "zh" like "sh" only with a "z") people echo back "zu-hust". Philistines!

Re: What do you mean, name changes?
I had the "zh" (so easy!) but I thought the vowel was an "oo".

Re: What do you mean, name changes?
I do understand: I'll often be reading a novel and come across a character name that I just never bother to assign a pronunciation until the day I'm talking with someone and have to say the character's name and I'm just completely stumped how to utter the word.

Me, too. I'm actually mildly disappointed.

Can we petition to get his playa name changed so sounds like it's spelled (to us)?

Re: What do you mean, name changes?
Hi again, Trilobyte!
I discovered this blog about name changes..... Could I please change mine? ....remember that wine I mentioned earlier?
But seriously --- I just set up a "temporary id" long ago when I never knew that I would be a camp lead nor be attending Burning Man for our 7th year! ....in 2010 I became Peritwinkle. The name stuck and then it became a venue within Camp D.O.A. It is also my geocaching name, playa name and much more. Therefore, I really need to be Peritwinkle on the blog!
Notice my icon ---->
Did I convince you?

I had zhust right but I was thinking trilobyte or trilo with a short i. Trill o bite. It's now burned into my puny brain and I may never be able to say it right, especially after a few drinks.
So Try-lo, I apologize in advance for when I meet you and mispronounce your name.

Congrats on the new moniker! Feelings about your name can change over time, and sometimes even the best ePlaya username can seem pale compared to the playa name that connects with you out in the dust.

Re: What do you mean, name changes?
Likely before 2015 I'll have a name on the playa. I'm not sure here. I belong to several forums and it's getting hard to keep track of who I am. Most places people know me by the name Ice (Icelander) which is funny cause I'm a desert rat. I have a lady friend who calls me Wild Cat due to the fact that I'm about 90% snark around her and I had that ADD way back before they had a name for it and my kindergarten (1958) teacher called me that cause I couldn't stop running round in circles and quiet down. Kiboy is in honor of my dog Ki and I was his boy and faithful friend. Maybe the only time I've ever been a truly faithful friend. I'm pretty fucked up sometimes. I miss him.

So as long as we're apparently doing this thing in here...
Is that Ki pronounced Key or Kye or Kih? Or something else?
