Re: Advice for a slide?
Oh people are definitely going to try and climb up your slide. It's like showing that you can conquer a mountain.
You have three ways to prevent that from happening:
What I would do is just accept and allow people to climb up the slide--if it not busy enough to prevent it. What harm is there in it? The only problem with people going up the slide is if people are going down. Oh, and maybe people scratching your slide with their shoes--so make sure you have a nice metal slide. Maybe even provide a piece of burlap for people to use to slide down. People can hand it back up to the people at the top.
You have three ways to prevent that from happening:
- 1) Somebody who babysits the exit to stop people from going up the slide. This will be boring for whomever has to do it.
- 2) Having an exhibit/art piece that is busy enough that enough people will be going down the slide to make anyone want to go up it.
- 3) Adding one-way "traffic spikes" to your slide.

Re: Advice for a slide?
A slide that looks like it is made of sandpaper or some other abrasive while being absolutely smooth in reality might be fun to observe.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Nice - a hologram of that would be perfect.
On a lower tech note - they make linoleum tiles that are smooth, yet are printed realistically to look heavily textured like gravel, splintered wood, grass, etc...

Awesome pic CarrieSnarf!
Now we just need to of those - one with linoleum to look like that and another that's the real thing with a sign at the top saying "shirtcockers only"

Re: Advice for a slide?

Rotating barrier to keep climbing interesting

Gentle anti-climb - multiple short sections rotate separately
harder than it looks
This is fun - never dries
