2:00 & 10:00 Neighborhood camps for 2012

Alright, who's bringing the noise, or is brave enough to camp near all that wattage? For the new folks, 2:00 and 10:00 are where all the large scale sound installations are placed - but there are a lot of mutant vehicle and big art support camps and other hidden gems tucked into the edges of Black Rock City. This thread is for camps to announce their locations and intentions… tell us who you are, meet your neighbors!

Just a little FYI for first timers, since no one else has posted it here.

The large sound camps have a moop problem, yes .... but please understand that it is not their moop! thousands of people visit these camps every night, dancing themselves silly in a very crowded space ... and moop happens. think everyone from thoughtless wasted ravers to a very conscientious burner whose earring falls off. once it's in the dust, it will stay there.

instead of criticizing the people whose time and money and hard work create these amazing camps, try being proactive by:

1) making sure you don't become part of the problem ... ie, don't go there and smoke, or take stuff that you could easily lose ... and have nothing that could fall off of your costumes or out of your pockets

2) spend some time at the camps in the mornings with a rake and a garbage bag.

My Uri Geller-ish statement is that Root Society was really great this year until that epic 3 day whiteout hit, and they burned the Man on Monday during exoDUST! Simon was on his best behaviour at all times....I saw it! Really! And, I already have MY ticket for 2013, I got it while they were still for sale.

Be patient, camps will post their info when they're good and ready. You likely won't see Bass Camp back as a registered camp, and certainly not in any kind of premium location. El Circo is no more. The people behind Simpler Times are most likely still involved with FractalNation Village, who are planning to return this year. Nexus will be back, but is no longer doing a large scale sound installation. My understanding is they're focusing on art (perhaps with a smaller daytime bar), and placed at 10:00 & Columbine.

This is one of my favorite mornings. It's quiet, you get tremendous feedback and hugs if you like. I scored some working blinkies, and got the day off to a nice start. I DID SAY FREE BLINKIES!

I may not be much of a dancer, but I really appreciate the atmosphere large sound camps and mutant vehicles bring to the Playa. It's cool to see absolute madness occurring off in the distance as I aimlessly wander the desert.

Good to know that the corners of the Esplanade this year will be well taken care of. I don't plan on dancing much, but I'll be sure to stop by on my morning adventures with a plastic bag and an eye for MOOP to keep the party going! I can't wait to see what other camps end up placed on these spokes.
