Leaving the playa immediately after the man burns?
Leaving the playa immediately after the man burns?
Hello,
My wife and I are first-time burners. We will be arriving together in our vehicle with all of our stuff. However, she needs to leave on Saturday/Sunday to fly home in time for the start of school. I have a problem to work out for how my wife will get from BRC to Reno airport. Anyone who is planning to leave the playa immediately after the man burns, has a spare seat, and would be willing to drop her off in Reno **please** contact me.
Thanks,
TodoInTX

what is your wife's timeline? we, too, have to leave but were planning on Sunday morning.

Re: Leaving the playa immediately after the man burns?
I haven't purchased the flight from Reno yet, so if I have book for late Sunday I could. I've found flights leaving at 4:00pm and 5:00pm. So, If you are leaving no later than 10:00am Sunday we may a good chance at alignment.

Thousands w/b leaving the playa immediatley after the Man burns...and I mean immediatley...a continuous flow. If she's OK with traveling at night just take her to the egress lines and hold up a sign that reads "NEED A RIDE TO RENO."
If traveling at night is scary, then do the same thing at daybreak. I'd recommend she select an offered ride from a group that includes at least one woman...there's a fair share of yahoos leaving at the same time...use caution and good judgement.

Giving this a nudge to the 2012 Share Resources board since that's better suited for ride shares - you may also want to check the main ride share board).

..and you can't just leave with her and take her yourself.. why?
You're that hell bent on savoring the last 24 hours there that you would send your wife off to fend for herself with some stranger?
Dude. Pack your shit up and take her yourself. It's your wife.

Re: Leaving the playa immediately after the man burns?
Would taking a picture of the driver and the car license plate and emailing them to her husband before getting into the car be overkill?

You could say that to any post on here. "We care about this why?"
Because we can. It's a public Internet forum. We comment on things.

Re: Leaving the playa immediately after the man burns?
Honestly, this was my first response as well, but I don't know the couple. As someone in a very long-term relationship I know something as simple-seeming as that first response may not be right - how do we know it isn't his wife who wants him to stay for the Burn? I know my boyfriend has left clubs & events early and encouraged me to stay and enjoy myself, his wife might be doing the same.junglesmacks wrote:..and you can't just leave with her and take her yourself.. why?

This is why I try not to give relationship advice when asked- no two couples (straight, gay or other) live by the exact same ground-rules.

Re: Leaving the playa immediately after the man burns?
Yeah, everybody has a different flavor of takes on this.
I'd be, "let's leave early then", without hesitation (but maybe a twinge of regret later). But to each his own.
She's trusting him to party the rest of the night and get mixed up with who knows what kind of hijinx... he might as well trust her in turn.

If I had to leave and if my husband wanted to stay, I would be ok with that. I certainly won't stress over it.Eric wrote:Honestly, this was my first response as well, but I don't know the couple. But this could be one of those "Ok, let's see if you can find a ride, otherwise we can both leave" kind of an approach.
I am not sure why we get into the rut of determining if every single thing is right or wrong. The never ending "I would have done this"s and "he/she should have done this"s, sigh...

See, I wouldn't have written a post that has very little to do with the actual OP need, but gets into board dynamics and how we think others should behave.

The problem is we sometimes only manage to get one of those shoes on -- or halfway on, even -- before we decide what they should do.Ugly Dougly wrote:Meh, I think it's human nature to put ourselves in other people's shoes.wh..sh wrote:*nods* And that sometimes makes me sad. He also might not be able to drive back with her because its simply too long of a drive. Maybe by driving they wont be getting home in time for school (I'm assuming Monday morning), and she will have to fly no matter what.
But, this is a public forum, and Opinions are like ass holes.
And personally, I think they have the wrong kind of tent and camp stove, and wont even survive to see the end of the event.

No Illy, they obviously won't last til Saturday because they are not wearing the correct footwear. Re: Leaving the playa immediately after the man burns?
I would not leave right after the Man burns. The lines are terrible (3-4 hours), and once you're out you'll end up driving all night in a slow train of vehicles. I'm not sure how much time you'll really save by leaving then. Better to leave Sunday morning/early afternoon; the line to the gate is exceptionally short (~15 minutes and you're out!). You'll also be driving during the day, and it gives you time to pack up and check stuff during daylight. It's a great time to leave if you're not hell-bent on watching the temple burn (we did it last year).
On another note, I can't ever remember the first day of class really being that productive. It's usually the syllabus hand-out, a little bit of discussion, and maybe a short amount of review. Still, beginning-semester jitters are different for different people.

Shit, my All seeing eye must be real hung over today, because I assumed she was teacher not a student. I figured shit, if the OP isn't telling us why she is going to school, we get to fill in the blank right? But, I also assumed that the user name TodoInTX meant they live in Texas.
