I'm holding out for "Potlatch"

which goes with the idea of gifting, after all. And the streets will be named: Coho, Chinook, Humpback,Sockeye, Silver, Pink (that's the bar district), Chum and Steelhead after the anadromous fish that made potlatch possible.

Dang it Joel, there you go cluttering up my flights of fancy with pesky facts again! Besides, maybe the lumber company can sponser the man, we can all get over our "non-commerce" idealism and go home. No the other home.

Nice spawning pic though.

Just a reminder of what speculating on the theme gains you. Not one vote for the Vault of Heaven here.

Interesting, we have an Alewife Brook Road, and Ely (corruption of Alewife) Brook Road, here. However and for that matter, I live on Cranberry Hole Road.

Well dang. Although, for me Ely will always mean that little fen town with the Cathedral That Could. (P.S. Source of the word "tawdry.")

Yep. It rates on my Playa Rightness Scale somewhere around 9.2. Pretty much the same score that the folks who hand carried the blown hemi engine on the wooden platform a while back.

I believe that the theme is decided on just around the new year after the powers that be hash over all these posts. Have faith in yourselves as you are the generating station of The Man.

Thanks. The only other themes I can think of at the moment is...

INFINITE REALITIES

or

ORIGINS

...but I much prefer TIME WARP.

Well, after further thought, maybe the powers that be are debating next year's theme as we speak and will have it ready for publicity by Jan. '05. It takes a while for the designs to be worked out even tho BMan crew are miracle workers in getting things done.

With Love, Jen aka Imagigrl

Yeah, I kinda liked that one ...

A big giant Reggedy Ann doll to burn on the playa ...
A "trojan horse" looking kinda giant rubber ducky on wheels ...

The possibilities are endless ...

I hope the theme comes back down to earth. Two years of ethereal mental constructs to build into art...not that it affected me in the slightest in my playa journeys, but I'm sure it inconvenienced those that tried to substantiate these concepts into real stuff.

How about the Magic Garden? Giant art car bees chasing glowing centipedes.

Something earthy and solid, Larry. Lower chakra stuff.

You know, the more I think about it the more I think it would be cool to have a theme that works with the environment of the playa. Something like Wind or Motion (which would probably incorporate wind in many designs). The point being to take something that is sometimes looked upon as a drawback and turn it into a positive. When the wind blows the art would become more active.

Also, remember that there will be no moon next year if it is held during the traditional week, so something that incorporates light might be very nice.

Well...I'm trying to get a Luminex co-op together. I even created a discussion for it on the Nature of Burning Man board, but so far only three people have checked it out and the concensus is "it's too expensive."

The plan is to contact the North American distributor next week and get an estimate, then sell shares. Each share is 1 yard of Luminex. We'll need to sell at least fifty shares because the minimum order is 50 yards. Co-op members send in a check or m.o. for their share and I'll give them until March to do that, then make the order and the stuff will be in the members' hands by April 1. That gives you four months to make something with it, assuming August is taken off for logisticals and Recompression parties.
