Time for a Happy Thread

So the bartending thing didn't work out but another part-time gig that fits into my schedule has been given to me and now I can officially say that my financial woes and stresses are no more and I will be enjoying a fully stocked burning man experience come August.

Today, I'm going to interview an astronaut!

Ok, so here's the story. I volunteer with an organization called Accessible Media Incorporated. They're a non-profit whose primary work is making print and video media accessible to people who are blind or visually impaired.

The astronaut interview is kind of a co-production between the audio and audio-visual sides of the organization; it will be broadcast on both streams. The interviewee is Marc Garneau, Canada's first astronaut. He's also a politician, but we'll be talking specifically about space stuff. Because the audio side of the organization is involved, and because I've done a lot of interviews with scientists, I was asked to do this one! I'm super-excited because... it's an astronaut! But I'm super-nervous, because it's going to be filmed (I would actually have turned it down, except for the chance to talk to an astronaut). Squeeee!

I am proud of and delighted with the person she has become. She is strong, smart, sassy, and funny and I am forever amazed that she was produced by me.

I find this statement really funny. I am assuming that MA means that she is as happy as one can be in your moment, but I cannot help but wonder how happy a clam really is in chowder. I mean, the poor thing has been boiled in heavy cream with potatoes and bacon, and is facing being eaten at best or being thrown in the garbage to rot at worst. I dunno, it seems a rather joyless existence to me.

Then again, I am not a clam. I have no idea what a clam's measure of joy really is.

Ahhhhhh.....

Soaked in warm heavy cream with potatoes and bacon, I could totally deal with... Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm. But there is actual boiling in the process of chowder making. I believe that would be quite excruciating.

My aunt was married on Saturday, on the top of a mountain on Vancouver Island during a beautiful warm, sunny day. I am so happy for her to find her soul mate after all these years. It was a fantastic wedding.

And I had the honour of lacing up her dress for her!

One of my dearest friends in the whole world got a clean bill of health today other than a little bit of high blood pressure, 2 years after a traumatic cardiac event (a virus attacked his heart; I believe they considered it congestive heart failure). He has an 18 month old toddler whom I love to bits, and I'm really glad that I probably won't have to explain to her what a great, hysterically funny guy her Dad is--she'll get to find out for herself.

Gah, he's one of the best people I've ever met, and such a good Dad.
