So.. what's the latest playa condition report from anyone that went out this last week?

a thin hard crackly crust that will eventually be pulverized to dust. no dunes yet. though the wind blew night and day, it was just hot air, not dust.
and the white glare of the playa was blinding.

Love this!
We had wind for about three days straight, but hardly any dust storms.
The increase in vehicles for BM will change that, of course.
Sunrises were incredible; Venus was bright.
The playa where BM is located is soft. Bicycles will be useless this year.Ducky wrote:

I went to Black Rock Desert for the 4th and camped out on hard, pristine playa. Weather was beautiful, light winds and no dust. 100 degrees at daytime peak and cool at night.

there probably weren't enough vehicles out on the big dusty to foster kicking up the big dusts...
Oh my god, it's HUGE!

Parts of the playa get more water than others...as it drains. We just need to look forward to lots of dust...and make it our little secret.
anything worth doing is worth overdoing..

Yes, there are patches of hard playa, but keep in mind the playa is huge. I was all over the BRC area and beyond, surface was very crumbly in most spots.
There was light wind early in the week, then very windy Wed and Thurs, then really nice Fri, Sat.
Little dust, due to little traffic. That will all change once 200,000 wheels hit in 7 weeks time.
Bring extra goggles and masks.

Obviously, it's going to be miserable. Stay home.
