Re: Hello and Welcome... What's your name? Tell me about You
Hey folks -
I'm U2 (like the band, but no relation) and it's my second year on the Playa after sitting out last year. My previous theme camp (Camp Foster) seems to have decided to not camp this year, so I'm looking forward to meeting new people and camping with a new camp or group ideally from the Seattle area so that we can participate in year-round Burner events.
I have all my gear and bring lots of food, drinks and an excellent attitude to the burn, so all I'm looking for is a shade structure and some camp mates to hang with.
So, let me know if you know of any good camps still looking for a good burner to join them.
See y'all on the Playa.

My name is Maddi. I fell in with the Burners more than a year ago, for better or worse. Attending monthly meetings in Boulder, CO, the burner community inspires me tirelessly. It is my passion to serve and spread compassionate, artistic environments. Hi!

Also, you guys already know me but with Trilo's kind help I, the eplayan formerly known as ensimismada, now go by the questionably-more-sensible and certainly-easier-to-spell nick "BoyScoutGirl."

Hi MaddiKandi!
. . . In an unrelated story, this is what ensimismada's new nickname puts this in my head
I tapped her on the shoulder
And said do you have rebar?
She looked at me and smiled
And said "Why yes, it's in the car"
BoyScoutGirl let's dance to techno
BoyScoutGirl where did the sun go
We'll dress like bats and squirrels
Just you and me, BoyScoutGirl . . .

Hi
My name is Christa and I live in Houston, TX. I became interested in Burning Man after hearing about it from hikers on the Pacific Crest Trail a few years ago. Since then I wanted to check it out and got a ticket for 2012. I'm not sure what to expect from the event but I would like to learn more about it and meet other people who are going and live in the Houston area as well.

Hello Christa/satine
! Welcome to ePlaya, as well, welcome to the desert here in a 1 1/2 months..would definitely check out the First-timer's/Survival guide on main page..as far as expectations, well
, by not knowing or having them, then you are in the best mental state (but, not to be confused with not being prepared)---would say to do as much homework as ya can (read forums, view pictures, talk to Burner's and ask questions
(good chats abounds, I personally like "The Bar" & "Da Bar#3" threads found in "Open Discussion")
Quick stat line: Going to be in a very dusty desert for a week. Surrounded by the raddest visual art, pulsating musical platforms & 60,000 friends
. High altitude, can be extreme (day & night) temperatures, as well, the forecast of the this being the d u s t i e s t year ever, that is, before you even add in the wind (can gust 30-40MPH or be a sweet calm peach
Need supplies to be self-reliant for 1 week (x number of people):water, food, shelter (clothing for all temp./condition, or optional.)..and maybe gifts (something for fun interactions at times
could be your personality, help ability, or in the traditional sense of items to give: take what you love, try to replicate it in small amounts to give to others~ you do poetry?: handwrite it 20 times to give to others. you do music?: burn 20 copies to give to others. You just like being a good person
?: give 20 hugs throughout the week... ..hopefully you can start to see the hum & fuss of potential that is possible to create, like with all the best things, the more (fill in the ____) you put in, the more it will ~*reflect*~ back friend. Be well, be excited, and sky's not even the limit anymore-- R o c k.

Hi Christa!
Add yourself to some of the Texas regional mailing lists. I note there's one specifically for Houston but you might not want to limit yourself.

Don't forget to read the Survival Guide. Welcome to the board.

Hello everyone!!
My name is Kiki, this year will be my first on Playa!! I was supposed to go last year, but my father lost his job so I decided to stay home and look for work to help out the family instead. But this year NOTHING will keep me away from Burning Man!! I already feel like it's my home even though I haven't been yet. A lot of my friends have been going for the past few years and were the ones who got me more interested in it. I can't wait for the week of art, expression, and community I'll be experiencing <3 I hope to make many many more friends, especially since I'm actually going by myself for my first year instead of with my friends. Hope to meet so many of you on the playa!!

Re: Hello and Welcome... What's your name? Tell me about You
My name is Will from Dallas. 2012 will be my first BM. I had initially planned to go with a friend who has been going for years, but unfortunately he now can't go this year. I now find myself with a ticket and I am determined to go (even if it is by myself). I've always wanted to and now that the opportunity is here, I'm not going to pass it up. With that said, I would LOVE someone to either adopt me, or at least help me get ready for what I know will be an incredible experience. ePlaya has been a great resource, but anyone willing to give some help, would be great as well!
Be well.
Be well.
Re: Hello and Welcome... What's your name? Tell me about You
Greetings everyone,
My name is Arturo and i live in the outskirts of Los Angeles and i miss the dusty taste of Black Rock City on my lips.
I first read about Burning Man 12 years ago in some weekly publication who's name i don't recall. There i sat encased in my cubicle, emerged in an article which described the yearnings within me. I developed a total fascination reading about the artisan community and it's celebration of all things life. A festival of caricatures that united in the open desert to withstand searing days and frigid nights, in total celebration, under the banner of Burning Man. Every year thereafter i followed the progression or rather evolution of Burning Man with plans to attend the next one. And so there went the years with yet another dream not realized though not for lack of trying or ambition but rather delayed, because of life's other needs that necessitate attention. Fast forward to 2011 and call it chance serendipity or what you will, but it seemed that at last the stars had aligned themselves for me in my quest to finally attend Burning Man, 25 years later but nonetheless................... My first venture onto the Playa and into the medley of colorful souls turned out to be far more than i expected, as everyone i talked to and interacted with seemed to be a long lost friend. It seems i had arrived. Hopefully i will have that opportunity once again, as i am without tickets but still clinging to hope

Hello everyone,
Been following ePlaya for a few years now, just got my STEP tickets and thought I would finally join the on-line community. This year will mark my sixth burn and my girlfriend's second. Like so many others, I can honestly say that Burning Man changed me and changed my life! If my girlfriend had not overheard me talking about Burning Man we would never have gotten together and our first burn together last year just made us all the more closer. Every year I have gone, I have progressively gotten more involved and this year I hope to meet some/any/all of you!!!
