Those familiar with Goldenvoice's plans but not willing to go on record tell Pop & Hiss that the promoter has been quietly organizing a music-themed cruise that would sail out of Florida and further expand the Coachella brand. The cruise is expected to launch as early as December of this year. Artist lineup, dates and pricing details are not yet known.
Goldenvoice's two Coachella festivals generated a gross of $47.3 million, the largest ever recorded for a single concert event, according to concert business trade publication Pollstar.
OHHH YEAH... aint nothing better i can think of than being trapped on a big boat with a bunch of coachella people!

Actually these music/concert themed cruises have been going on for a while.. and always out of FL it seems. This is nothing new.

You know, it would be rather boring, and the music would be bad, but after midnight, you'd have the whole ship to yourself... That sounds rather blissful. The Coachella trip, you'd have to wait until at least day 5 for all the party drugs to run out/wear off before you'd get your solace.junglesmacks wrote:How about a nice Kenny G Alaskan cruise? http://www.cruisecritic.com/articles.cfm?ID=1014

Coachella schmotella. It's just a bunch of musical acts in one place with corporate sponsors. Not the first, not the last and not the boogeyman.
Here's the annual 311 cruise with 16 different bands: http://www.311cruise.com/artists

Re: coachella cruiseline baby!

No.. it's just entertaining in a slightly morbid way watching you guys get so worked up about Coachella. Somehow, you guys have singled this event out as the principle source of evil when literally.. commercially sponsored music fests have been happening for decades.
We've already had this debate though and had to agree to disagree. On one hand, you have those that vehemently feel that the mere existence of a festival with any type of corporate sponsorship is the axis of evil and has no place. On the other hand, you have those that say live and let live and if you don't like it, then don't participate.
My view is that if someone is wants to go see a band or a festival that is sponsoring it, then it's no different than watching a TV show because you enjoy it yet there happens to be commercials. I don't pay attention to the commercials nor care that they're there. If they want to pay money to sponsor it.. then so be it. I'm just there to laugh for 30 minutes. Guilty by association is a lame stereotype. Am I gay because I went to a gay bar last week with some gay friends? It has nothing to do with "growing balls". It's just operating in the world that we live in these days. You don't have to compromise your own ideals to still enjoy what's out there.
All I'm trying to say is that this has literally.. been going.. for years. It's not the end of the world. To each their own.. live and let live.

oh yeah!! we are shouting change for a reason! let's forgive ourselves!! we want to save ourselves and we want to be LIFE CARING FOR LIFE!! because something in us knows thats why we are here!! SOMEBODY give me a lifealujah!!!..
We today we have to do something that is so counterintuitive. and god bless us. we are trying to imagine doing that thing that is sufficiently counterintuitive, the alujah beyond the silent e. so strange. so brave and yes risking our lives. we suspect it can't be done with corporate sponsored art. but what we are doing here is practicing. we are getting ready. we are gonna walk out that door and we are gonna walk into public space, and the change we have been witnessing through time has always involved public space, parks plazas streets sidewalks..
I cant think of anymore powerful thing to do with the arts than to take the 1st amendment, those 5 freedoms, and to take them to public space and expect and demand that you be defended there by your passers by.. by the government, by people who are approaching you with cross looks on their faces, in uniforms, saying "you need 7 permits to do that, child."
children. we have a wonderful gift that has been given to us.
think of all the people that have filled public space with their bodies that have made changealujah that we have witnessed..
people. ordinary people like you or i who are willing to jump up and run down the street to some open area, some commons, some open area of the city, and they demanded what we have had given to us! which we are squandering!
we must take the 1st amendment to public space and what we do there must be so dramatic that we do that thing together that is beyond the silent e at the end of the word change.
amen

Good for you and your Coachella hate, I guess. Seems like a logical expansion (boat parties and event cruises have been growing in popularity), and from my experiences at Coachella the crowds didn't suck.

If they have an accordion cruise that involves both Finntroll and Brave Combo, someone alert me. I want to go.

Re: coachella cruiseline baby!
The tour bus will leave the casino in time to arrive at Black Rock City at about 10 pm, in time to view the highlight of his unique Arts Festival in the Nevada Desert. You will be allowed to leave the bus at this point, but stay close, since the "playa" is covered with dusty hippies and we are of course concerned with your health and safety foremost.
