Re: CORE 2012
Hello lovely eplaya peeps!
squishelle here, Regional Contact from Vancouver BC.
I assisted CORE last year with the Great Wall of CORE posters featured at Everywhere Lane's Regional Network Centre, and again this year, I'm stepping up to assist Meghan with CORE Media & Promo stuff!
I'm still waiting for the final approved list from BMHQ, but in the meantime, I've been able to gather links from FB & this thread & have this list going so far: http://bit.ly/CORE2012EffigyLinks
Please send any updates to this list to: squishelle at burningman.com
The list is also accessible from the top banner om last year's CORE FB page at: https://www.facebook.com/BManCORE
And we're very close to launching the new CORE FB page, that won't be year specific - stay tuned for that!
Also, some tips for Facebook users, especially with recent changes to Groups.
Fan Pages: are great for promoting your project to a much greater audience than your crew.
Groups: are great for your crew to share info & organize things in the background. Groups have basically replaced email lists of old.
They are NOT ideal as a promo tool outside your crew for a few reasons.
Those are some initial thoughts i wanted to unload, feel free to contact me if you have specific questions!

Also, some tips for Facebook users, especially with recent changes to Groups.
Fan Pages: are great for promoting your project to a much greater audience than your crew.
- You should have a page so that your fundraising efforts & events can be promoted to anyone - friends, coworkers, family, other communities, etc.
- Fan pages are EASY to "Like" and show up on people's Profile pages, creating a viral buzz.
- Your public events should be created FROM the Fan Page, so that ANYONE can RSVP & again, share that event via their Profile Page.
- Fan pages are a super effective way of cross-promoting other CORE projects. You can add other Fan Pages as a "Favorite" to your fan page.
See how we've done that on the CORE page, scroll down to see the list of page "Likes": https://www.facebook.com/BManCORE
Groups: are great for your crew to share info & organize things in the background. Groups have basically replaced email lists of old.
They are NOT ideal as a promo tool outside your crew for a few reasons.
- People may perceive that there is a slight barrier vs the ease of the "Like" button.
- First, people have to ask to join the group, then wait for approval. Then they may potentially be bombarded with emails that do not interest or pertain to them, re: the nitty gritties of the project.
- The main reason in favour of Fan Page is that any event that you create from the Group, can only be RSVP'd by members of the group, which cuts out a good number of people and removes the viral wall posting to Profile walls component.
Those are some initial thoughts i wanted to unload, feel free to contact me if you have specific questions!

Re: CORE 2012
Dear Community,
We have been working very hard on the CORE project the past couple of
months. The final drawings are in and fabrication is underway!
But we still need your help! We are about $2700 away from out goal on
kickstarter and only have 10 days to go.

Here is our financial document detailing current expenses, quotes, and
estimates:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub ... utput=html
We will also be having work session in the workshop where we will need
helping hands to fabricate parts.
This calender will be posted on our facebook page in the next few days.

I would like to personally say thank you to everyone in the community for
all the love and support throughout this whole project!

Do y'all have a facebook/webpage for your project yet?
Man, I love you people! I haven't been on eplaya much the last few months having changed jobs, taking the regional contact position, working on our CORE, etc etc...
So here I find people have been talking about little old us and I didn't even know! Love it!
Yeah, we're in funding mode. I posted a thread in the Art and Performance forum. Here's our indiegogo page: http://igg.me/p/72880?a=94887
The theme is indeed Missed Conceptions. It's going to be amazing to participate in this thing, assuming the funds come in to pull it off. This has to be the number one obstacle for every one.
I'll post an update here in a bit with the FB page.

I understand the CORE projects will be lit at 9pm Thursday and that the area around the Man will be sealed off some time before.
Does anyone know when the Man will be sealed off?

You refer to the burning of the man Saturday night?
As I understand it the CORE effigies will be set on fire already Thursday at 9pm.
We are planning a meet-up and parade from the man Thursday at 1630h and I was wondering if this collided with the CORE project?

Re: CORE 2012
Seriously, does any one know if the area around the Man will be sealed off on Thursday - and if so from what ?
I want to send out an invitation to meet at the man at 16:30h but not much fun if the place is closed off

It will be sealed off, but not that early, go ahead with your plans.
We have an obligation to make space for everyone, we have no obligation to make that space pleasant.
