How to remove rebar from the ground...
I just would like to pass along the best playa tip I ever received:
Rebar works great, but it must be removed at the end of the week. If you are unprepared like I was my first year, this can turn into a nightmare. Fortunately, there is a great solution. Bring a pair of locking vise grip pliers. They are inexpensive and take up precious little space. With them you can easily remove rebar of just about any size in seconds. When you're done with your camp, go take a stroll and help your unprepared neighbors. They will love you.

Yep! Seriously! Clamp big vise grips on rebar stake, twist back and forth while pulling up, stake slides out of ground.plantmandan wrote:Bring a pair of locking vise grip pliers.
And for the luv of dawg avoid these things:

can't count the number of those type of stakes I've dug up from neighboring camps that have run off and left them grrrrrrr

MyLarry uses a wrecking bar, although I can see how it would not fit into carry on luggage. Even I can use it, whereas I do not ave sufficient grip strength for the vise grips.

Yep, Vice-Grips. Twist and wiggle as you pull.

Actually, you can attach the vise grip pliers to a bumper jack and then pull the stubbornest stake of nearly any type. A 6' wrecking bar is another great tool to loosen the soil around the stake as well.
My favorite stakes are the the biggest nails that Home Depot sells, and you add a washer when you pound the stake in. Then, you call pull up your stakes with a large crowbar.
I'll give a mixed review to a pipe wrench. They tend to slip.

More specifically, after clamping the vise grips, use it as a lever to rotate the rebar stake several times in each direction. The stake can usually be pulled right out of the ground by hand after that. If it's still stuck, tap the stake from the side with your sledge a few times. Hit it from a few different directions. Rotate with the grips some more, and pull it up again. I've never had much trouble removing any rebar stake with these methods.

The big nails are also called landscaping nails, we pound them through grommets on our groundcovers.
