Ideas for disabled vehicle for cancer patient?

I just found out my good friend of 18 years has stage 4 cancer throughout her entire body, and has been given six months. She would like to try to make it to the 2012 Burn, which would be her third. She is only planning on going for four days. I've just scoured the Internet for ideas on some kind of non-electric, pushed wheeled contraption that we could make for her, that would save her from walking. It would need to have super suspension so she wouldn't get jostled more than absolutely necessary. I'm thinking something like Cleopatra's litter, but on wheels with suspension. I've never done anything like this, and the deadline for a Disabled vehicle (is something non-electric even a vehicle?) is July 31, I think. There isn't too much time to get this either built, or bought, and transported. This is the best place I could think of to post this query. Thanks in advance.

You're welcome to bring (pretty much) anything that is non-powered without a permit.

If I had a picture of the flowing king sized canopy bed on wheels with full suspension that our campmates had last year.. I would post it.

If it does'nt have a motor, it does'nt have to be licensed.

If your friend has a disabled plate on thier car, they can drive it on the playa, but will need the placard from DMV.

Golf cart.

Get a gasser. It is proven technology that is easy to use. I like club car but you can't go wrong with a good running yamaha or dare I say ez go either. Fresh oil change right before hitting the playa and one spare air filter and spark plug. If when you put it through it's slow speed paces(5mph) you smell hot/burn't belt..... Replace the belt and bring a spare. Think about having it looked at by a sharp or competent/trained person. Apply for the the handicap permit straight away.

Put a sign on the top that says FUCK CANCER for you and all that agree with the statement. It will stop 89% of the heckling. That coincides directly with the amount of people in the population who are callous assholes no matter what the situation so that's what one gets. Golf cart regularly get heckled at the event. Mostly out of jealousy for the very good contraptions that they are.

Yes, but not as very original heckling. So, get on your bullhorn and say "Improve your heckling!" back.

Get the state permit, take it and hope you don't need it.
Have it anyway.
Apply to the bmdmv.

You are likely to need a vehicle for the long hauls.
Many people find they are more exhausted than they expect.
Happens without illness.
You can always get out and use whatever for short exploration.


Most heckling has to do with excessive dust and speed.
Driving on the playa, I often get "Thanks for driving the speed limit."

It's 5 mph or LESS, depending on dust, inside the city.
Usually less.

There is quite a bit of advice on these forums by searching for disabled or alterabled, and some very knowledgeable vehicle builders here who know the threads. You may find some resources on playa for repairs and charging at the Department of Mobility on the Center Camp ring. Snow Koan Solar also does charging. Your regional may also have ideas.

Some time back, my friends made a comfy rattan/ wicker papasan bowl chair mobile with some bicycle wheels. Maybe it could even have a parasol? Elegant and lightweight. Even bicycle towable, or maybe it's a side car with the right gearing to chat with the peddler.

I decided not to take my gas golf cart based rocket ship to BM this year. You're welcome to it if you get it registered in time (7/31) been up 3 years in a row. Gets day and night licensed

Hey everyone. Thanks for all of your advice and best wishes. My friend has decided that it's madness to even attempt to attend this year, so we are no longer scrambling for on-playa transportation.
