Trilo, I love the look of those tags. How thick are they? I'm wondering how thick I'd need to make a similar token for the acrylic to be durable...

Re: Work in Progress
I'm using 1/8" thick acrylic. They're durable for normal use and wear, though if I try they can be broken. It took some tinkering with the design and laser settings to come up with a good balance.

Everything looks awesome! I was near throwing in the towell on projects, but the giggling in the green machine super trike video was so infectious, and just the way I want to feel. Thanks capjbadger for that! Trilo, your work is so cool as well. I'm looking forward to seeing it on playa.

Yeah, don't give up, Elorrum, you can do it! I'm constantly awed and inspired by the cool things people on the boards are doing.
Today saw lots of progress on all fronts. My sweetie cast some additional buttons from the design we came up with when making my space pirate coat a few years ago, and got the coat shored up with replacements for missing buttons and re-sewing and re-inforcing all the rest. That's still one of my favorite pieces we've done together, I'm excited to have it ready to go. I also got more time on the laser to make more tags, as well as tinker with a couple designs. We also had some of our campmates over to help with painting all the standees…
Of course we also had a supervisor on the job…

Ninkasi approves…

Huzzah!

The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.

I still have to finish painting the other side then I'll start in on the embellishments. I was gonna do the black tonight but realized that I'd used up all my black paint on the t-shirts

Re: Work in Progress
trilobyte, I love these tags. CNC machines are so much fun. I miss having access to them. Used to program and run Wire EDM's for a long time and I still get a kick out of drawing up geometry for the laser work that we outsource.trilobyte wrote:I'm making good progress with the laser cutter, though it'll take several more sessions to get through the rest of the tags I want to cut. Re: Work in Progress
Thanks LeChatNoir, I've enjoyed the process (and challenges) of learning the tools and trying to get good at them. On the surface you'd think it was all just so simple to dump something from the computer to the machine, but there are so many crazy little quirks and nuances and tricks to work out. I'm in the home stretch on tags, then it's on to the rubber stamps and then I may be done with the laser cutter for the season.
Rocking a spray can is where it starts, Foxfur. Gateway art, eventually giving away to bigger and crazier things. Of course, you've already got the blowing things up thing going on, lots of fun there.
I love the boom box, MDF, what a great piece!
I still have plenty to do (aside from the lasering), gotta get my conduit order sorted out (plus cut a bunch of the poles) as well as grab a few sheets of wood paneling for the wall facade behind the deli counter (so people don't have to stare at our cargo van). I'm grabbing a few things off the girl's to-do list as well, ultimately it's all junk that the two of us have to get done so woohoo for getting closer.
