How I'd organize next year's ticket (re)sale
For will-call tickets, if at any point someone wants to sell their ticket they simply log into their online burning man account and click "post for sale", or if that's too complicated, submit their confirmation number and buyer info into a page similar to the current ticket name change form at https://secure.inticketing.com/namechange.php?nug=burn . Tickets will be sold on the Burning Man website and refunded in the order they're posted, with no need for buyers to contact individual sellers. Any tickets not resold will remain available as will-call to the original owners. This could be fairly automatic.
For people that insist on physical tickets, if they choose to resell them they can mail them back to the Burning Man organization along with $50 upfront (or whatever amount makes sense to the Burning Man organizers) as a non refundable processing fee and incentive to stick to e-tickets. They will then be treated the same as will-call/e-tickets, sold in the order they're posted, and will remain usable as will-call tickets to the original owner if they don't sell.

Not so sure about that, masturbation is generally more productive
Still, where else can people provide ideas for what might be helpful in the future regarding ticket resales than the ticket discussion forum? There may very well be reasons why what I proposed wouldn't work, but ideas should still be shared.

Came to this thread just to read the replies......knowing the "solutions" have all been said before. After clicking elsewhere, I realized I hadn't even read the original post. FYI, I imagine alot of smart connected people have been going over all this for longer time than, say, one day. And the way tickets get sold will be based on a pretty wide base of info, might even resemble some of the suggestions laid out online here. Anyway, volunteer with the organization, meet some insiders, spread your idea, or move those great ideas to -

Re: How I'd organize next year's ticket (re)sale
Gee, no one has ever had any ideas on how to sell the BM tickets differently...
The only problem that I saw with this year's ticket sales was human nature. If everyone had behaved like the burners they claim to be, it would have been perfect. But, no, lets game the system....
And, it is a few weeks before the burn. There are more tickets for sale than wanted on eplaya. (As there are every year)

And howls from people who can't sell their STEP tickets; I wonder how many of them insisted on making STEP nontransferable a few months ago?
I'm not a slut, I'm good time floozy!

I second Simon's idea.
Maybe something a bit more colorful. Something like a cross between Hunger Games and a bum fight.
