Hideho! Dutchie burner checking in...
A big hi to everyone!
I'm a first timer to BRC, from Holland. Having been to Nowhere in Spain, just had to come over and fully live this entire BM epicness [not in the least because the entire burning stuff-aspect doesn't happen over there]! I did a little interactive experience 'art project' at Nowhere with a couple of friends and am planning to bring it over to the Playa in an alternative version for me to do on my own.
I'll be flying in to Oakland on Thursday 23, and flying back on Sept. 6. Because I just fixed ticket/plane ticket at the last minute, I will most likely not join a theme camp. Radical self reliant by nature, I will probably fix up everything myself. But, me being one of these postmodern hippies as well [spread the love!], would love to connect to SF/Bay Area burners or other foreigners heading to BRC from SF/Bay Area. Maybe we can share resources, preparations, a ride, etc. Or just meet up pre/post-event and hang out? And if there's anyone with a couch that I could abuse for a couple of days pre/post BM in SF or Oakland, that would be swell! Otherwise, just looking forward to seeing you guys on the Playa! Have a great burn!
Love-filled hug,
Arlo

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

Try one of the Orphan camps. They're for people who have no theme/permanent camp. You become a little community within BRC composed of strangers.

Hi Bluesbob!
Thanks for the suggestion. Let's see what happens.

Hi there!
We are also virgin Burners - two Dutchies now living in Portland Oregon. We may see you in one of the orphan camps, as we also are not part of a theme camp (yet).
Have fun! Rieneke & Martijn

Hi Rieneke en Martijn!
Although it's tempting to start out with "Alles goed?", let's keep it in English to not scare our fellow hippies with random Dutch babbling
Actually, I got invited at the last moment by my soon-to-be-new-friends of 100th Monkey Camp. If everything goes according to plan I'll be staying with these lovely people [it's a burn event, so nothing goes "according to plan", but let's be positive
]
If you guys are into meeting other Dutchies and Euroburners on the Playa, you should check out these FB-groups; I think they've got some meetups lined up:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/109915471603/
https://www.facebook.com/groups/Euroburners/
Apart from that, would love to meet you guys and hear your presumably fascinating stories! So maybe see you somewhere in the dust! Have a great burn!
Hug,
Arlo

Hi Zifra!
I'd thought it's not up to me to invite random people to be the 101th and 102th monkey
But, if your message was intended as an open invite to them as well to at least check our Monkey operation out and get in contact with you, I guess as soon as they read this, they could and should contact you! My motto is: the more the merrier! Radical inclusion and all that jazz..
So, Rineke and Martijn. If I understood Zifra's message correctly, you could check the camp out and get in contact with her?
Hug to everyone,
Arlo

Hey Arlo!
I had to cancel this year due to the fun of moving, but next year.
I hope to make it to Holland again soon too.
We'll see.
You should have a great time!

Hi gyre!
There I go presuming stuff that turns out to be different.. Never be too quick to presume things, is one of these ongoing lessons the universe is trying to teach me
So, what's your story [cancelling, moving, making it back to Holland]? I'm sure everyone else that is reading this thread is as curious as I am to hear your story...

Re: Hideho! Dutchie burner checking in...
No, reasonable presumption.
I turned my ticket in two weeks ago.
Just drama with a bad landlord and employer, which he's escalating.
He will find this to be unwise.
Didn't get any notice, so there goes the burn for me.
There's a girl he wants to move in, after I made his former crack den inhabitable again.
He illegally cut off the utilities, and so on.
Lots of lies and tricks.
I'm countersuing for fraud, etc.
Libel may follow.
The usual bullshit.
I tried to work it out, but he's not even listening.
He deliberately delayed notice too, for some reason.
I'm looking at small farms now.
I'm from the states.
I just want to visit Holland again to be there.
One of my favorite places.

Re: Hideho! Dutchie burner checking in...
Wow gyre!
That sounds like a lot of hardship to go through.. Good luck, strength and love in fixing all that shit!
If you do get the chance to come over to Holland, do let me know and maybe we can meet up or - depending on my living situation by then - I could have a couch to share.
You can find me either via this forum or through other interwebs-ways [FB, email, etc.]
Take care!

Thanks
Other than missing the burn, it's just one of those things.
Inconvenience.
If you travel the states, I may have plenty of camping space by then, and a porch you can shoot a rifle off of.

Hi Cryptofishist!
Don't take these kinds of remarks literal, personal and most definitely don't take them too seriously..
As I don't take myself not too serious as well. You could try it, it makes me more relaxed in this world..maybe you too?
If I offended you and your non-hippie beliefs, I do apologize [me being a hippie and all, wouldn't want you to feel hurt

"Me, Arlo" is a great username. And "Double Dutch" is a terrific username! Welcome all around. Hope you're ready for some dust!
Now then, the etymologist in me is curious: does "hideho" come from the Dutch language?

Hi Boyscoutgirl!
I have my parents to thank for the username. They called me Arlo. And just "Arlo" seemed to be taken already on this board. And yes, Cryptofishist, I was sort of named, or the name was at least inspired, after that one hippie [you know, Alice's Restaurant and all that], so I am impaired, sort of, with having this hippie branding on my personality
. No point in having a playa name because of it, in my opinion..
Hideho... Just a nice little greeting.. No Dutch origin as far as I know.
Have a great burn!

Hello...
I've meet these sweet dutch guys and had a wonderful time with them in my camp Opulent Temple. However, when we wanted to meet up the next day it somehow didn't work out.
You did not meet by any change GW and Sebastioan from the Netherlands. They lived around 4:30 and F.

Hi Sintao!
This took a while to reply..
Opulent Temple was awesome, visited there multiple times!
These guys don't ring any bells in my world, but I saw that you posted already at the Dutch FB-group, right? If anywhere, that will lead you to them.. And otherwise, who knows, some other random things could occur to reconnect you guys! Good luck!
