Fire Extinguishers -- What kind? Help :)
Hey everyone! Our registered and approved art car this year has flame effects, and the one thing we can't find are exactly what kind of fire extinguishers are required.
Two years ago, we needed two very specific types of fire extinguishers, and they had to be fresh. We had one that was older and it wasn't up to snuff and we had to hunt around for a different one.
Does anyone know? I've poured through all the online documentation and there doesn't seem to be any info on this topic.

I should have specified, they are propane flame effects.

I think Class C covers all fires including electrical and everybody's favorite grease/oil fire
Sooner or later, it will get real strange...

There are a lot of extinguishers that are multiple class, unlike me with no class at all...Jackass wrote:Jackass wrote:I think Class C covers all fires including electrical and everybody's favorite grease/oil fire

Based on that info, I'd recommend class C. Covers you for the propane effects, as well as any tricksy electrical problems you might encounter.

I sent you a PM with a class B&C Auto/Marine extinguisher. They are inexpensive and you can 3 or 4 to cover your needs...

From what I understand class C (which is a dry chemical extinguisher) covers A and B as well the C specifics.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Class C is electrical fires, dosen't necessarily mean it's dry chemical. Look for something that's Class A, B, C.Drawingablank wrote:From what I understand class C (which is a dry chemical extinguisher) covers A and B as well the C specifics.

fire extinguishers can save yer ass.
after a horrible incident involving an old CRT monitor that totally burst in to flames.. which i was able to put out with an extinguisher intended for electrical only stuff (hooray, no mess!) i wouldnt feel too safe without one ..at home.. and especially when messing with fire effects..
shit can get out of hand real fast!!
(i got two fire extinguishers within about 25 feet and 4 in the house... get one!! keep one in yer bedroom... use em for the purpose of getting out of a burning house.... or .. maybe to put out a small fire that you dont want to turn into a huge one...)
you should have some extinguishers around even if you dont plan to have any propane effects on yer mutant vehicle..

Don't link to anything here!

You can also hook up a hose in place for small fires.
As you said, getting out is key.
A panic switch for fire can be configured to kill electric power and even gas, as well as an alarm.

I bought one two days before leaving to the burn, just for shits and giggles because I have a deepcycle battery and inverter on my tent trailer.lemur wrote:fire extinguishers can save yer ass.

I ended up putting out my neighbor's propane/electrical almost gasoline RV fire at about 6am Sunday morning with my brand spanking new extinguisher type ABC. One more minute of fire and the extinguisher wouldn't have stopped that fire, and dude wouldn't have too much RV left. The moral of this story kids is, have one even if you think you don't need one. You never know when your weird neighbor's rig or set up may burst into flame, perhaps even engulfing you.I had done my good deed for the day, I was just getting back to camp, I went to sleep after that.
Like Lemur said,"Shit can get out of hand real fast!!!" That's for sure.
Sooner or later, it will get real strange...
