Cleats??

This is my first year and I have a brand new pair of football (american) cleats. Are theses ok, or will they be too much for the precious playa?

Probably not the best footwear to use. You may slip on hard pack or get a cleat caught in a crack and tweak your ankle.

Out of curiousity, whats the need for cleats? Traction isnt really a big concern in my experience, and you may damage something if you're walking on it (eg. a ground covering tarp or some hereto unknown piece of walkable art work). Seem like more of a pain for no real benefit.

A specific example of why they'd be a bad idea occurs to me -- Trampolines. Last year a guy made a trampoline art car with black lights everywhere. Doubt he'd want people jumping on it with cleats, so you'd want to take them off. There are lots of trampolines around BRC. PITA to take off your shoes each time, IMHO.

Geebus...hasn't anyone ever seen some chick or chick wannabe in 8" platform boots teetering along. Not to mention the stilt walkers 8 frickin' feet in the air...If he wants to wear cleats, let him wear cleats!

I'm wearing motorcycle boots. Anyone got a problem with that?

Hell, in 2010 I saw a friend not only teeter in 8" platforms, I saw him hit a dune & go down. Did I mention the breaking his ankle part? So there is that.

The OP was very wise to choose something that will allow his feet to grip the ground while withstanding a punishing 100-mph winds.
