Temple Crew Reporting High Winds
Got a text msg this AM from a campmate currently on the playa for Temple Crew that read:
"His tent tent got blown the F**K up and he had to to back to Reno to get another..."
And the guy that got blown up is a veteran burner that spends 20+ days a year on the playa, so you know he was strapped in pretty good...sounds like it could be a doozy.

Golly jee... I've got a tall, sturdy tent, and a short, sturdy, less comfortable tent with a rainfly that nearly touches the ground. Neither have seen winds over 30mph... Wonder if either would hold up to 50+ winds, even with rebar... These are REI tents, but I wonder if something more extreme is warranted...

dont they camp out there by the worksite during the build phase? ...basically exposed with few windbreaks..
...id imagine that once everyone gets there and fills out the city there will be a good windblock for anyone who isnt on the edges.. as usual...

I got a pup tent I borrowed from my kid brother who's in the Cub Scouts. That should be good enough, right? It even has TWO guy lines!

Yeah, the Crew camps at the Temple location with very few wind breaks until a few days before the gates open. Still, it could be a good one this year. I was out there in July for (4) days and it blew hard to (3) of the (4).

Yeah, dude, you'll be fine. You might want to tie it to your neighbors car, though, just to be safe?

Check again. It has two GUYs. Unfortunately, these are scout masters. You will not be allowed to camp in Kidsville.

Actually, yes, if it's anything like the tents I pitched with the scouts (as it were).
Cowboy Carl used to use a simple range tent. Look, ma, no guy lines.

Are these winds of 50 mph blowing continuously throughout the day/night or just the occasional gust?
Don't bore your friends with all your troubles. Tell your enemies instead, for they will delight in hearing about them.

What I've been hearing from numerous sources is that there's been a several hour period each day with severely high winds. Sustained winds in the 50mph department with even stronger gusts.

Do we take bets on how long it takes the car to reach the State line?

Okay, I've read that rebar isn't the only option, so I've been floating a couple ideas to keep my pop-up tent from sailing away.
