wild fires/smoke
Figured I start a thread for discussion of the fires currently burning in NorCal and northern Nevada. I'm sure hwy70 through the Feather River Canyon will still be affected in two weeks, I don't think there are alot of people that take that route other then me, but the smoke is hanging all around northern California, and even making it's way to the playa.
What other people think about you is none of your business.
Re: wild fires/smoke
The news says they don't expect to have containment til August 31st. It'll still be smokey in the desert during that week, perhaps.
Sooner or later, it will get real strange...

I just hope it isn't like this... will, unless that's actually dust.

news reports that there are currently 15 wildfires across Nevada. Unless they put one out last night.
Oh my god, it's HUGE!
Re: wild fires/smoke
Last night the sun set was orange due to the smoke. Sure going to be a interesting environment year...

Wildfires scare me. I have to believe that there are others that go up the Feather River Canyon, though...
It's a lovely drive.

We saw a lightning strike cause a fire when we were driving to BM last year (this was on the way in eastern Nevada). That photo above is actually from central Utah.

The Salt Lake Valley was horrible hazy today, easy to see it up on the bench where Hill AFB sits.

It's all a rerun of 2001 when the Sierra was ablaze. Makes for some grand sunrise/sunsets.

This photo was taken Friday night, about 3 miles north of BRC. Smoke/Haze came in and out with the wind. At mid playa, the mountains were sometimes hidden. Today was clear as a bell...

There aren't any fires really close to Sacramento, but I was smelling smoke last night, probably from Clear Lake. Another fire is moving towards Susanville.

I was working on the Mt Rose highway (SR431) on Tuesday and Wedensday of this week and I couldn't see lake Tahoe from just below the summit on the west side.

Re: wild fires/smoke
Went from So Oregon to BRD through NoCal & No Nev, lots of smoke, like Weatherman's shot. I had to go over to Lovelock on 80, looked the same. Over the weekend the weather near BRC was excellent, no wind, no rain, orange Sun but just heard about 60 mph at BRC blowing off roofs. BM is gonna be a crap shoot.

Re: wild fires/smoke
The Salt Lake valley is full of smoke and not from local fires... coming in from neighboring states then settling in as a hazy layer. I've never seen that happen before.

Questions as to the spread of flame is explained using Heat transfer, a discipline of thermal engineering that concerns the generation, use, conversion, and exchange of thermal energy and heat between physical systems. Heat transfer is classified into various mechanisms, such as conduction, convection, radiation, and peer pressure. I figure it's the last one that hooked the emoticons.

Man, if you keep talking like this I will so hump your leg at the MnG.
It'd be awesome if you could whisper significant constants or clever algorithms in my ear at the same time...

We have eliminated the use of "wind" and are substituting the word "wino" in its stead.weather man wrote:You betcha.Token wrote:It's all a rerun of 2001 when the Sierra was ablaze. Makes for some grand sunrise/sunsets.
