Pillsbury Cinnamon rolls (if u have an oven... most RV's do). Wait until the third or fourth day, then bust 'em out. I suggest buying a few tubes, as the smell usually draws a crowd. Especially recommended for those like me whose favorite resaurant is Cinnabon.
I might add, Nutella and saltine crackers come in a close second... no prep necessary. You can dip your bacon in the Nutella if your taste buds need an orgasm.

Re: What's your favorite / must have food item on the playa?
Beefaroni washed down with PBR.
Well not exactly my favorite I guess, but basically the only food I bring to the playa because I don't have to cook it and can eat it right out of the can so cleanup is just wiping off my spork. It is basically the only time I eat that stuff all year.
Not that I have much appetite on the playa, I have to force myself to even eat that much.

Prime Rib with au jus, grilled asparagus and a cold Newcastle

Re: What's your favorite / must have food item on the playa?
Cold Sprite was the first craving I ever got. On Wednesday, August 30, 2000 someone asked me what I wanted from Gerlach, and even though I was eating mostly PB&J and powerbars all week, the only thing I truly wanted was more D batteries ('cause I fell asleep with my flashlight on) and a 6-pack of Sprite. Best soda of my life!
Cold champagne and Sapporo are also lovely.
Food-wise, pickles are my only true food craving out there. Everything else is just a wonderful surprise.

Re: What's your favorite / must have food item on the playa?
I have more than just one:
-bacon wrapped fillet mignon
-bacon wrapped Nathan's or Hebrew National hot dogs.
-corned beef hash - fried with a bit of bacon grease.
-kippered snacks and saltines
-BBQed corn on the cob (with butter)
-BBQed rib eye steak
-fresh green salad
-root beer floats
I plan to have all the above except for likely the fillets and maybe substitute chuck steaks for rib eyes - too expensive.

Seriosly how? They cook it before canning it. I have been eating cold / lukewarm canned beefaroni on camping trips for decades.Mosquitopilate wrote:i thought you can get sick from eating cold beefaroni or ravs out of a can cold?
Besides, its playa temp so not exactly cold - probably 90 degrees.

Yes...if it could spoil in the can, then you wouldn't even recognize it when you opened it two years later.
As a virgin I'm just going to bring the standard stuff...bacon, pickles, pancake mix, skillet meals, powerbars, snacks.

Ice Wine
2nd on the Beefaroni. Quick no fuss sustenance when you haven't got the time or energy to cook/eat. Set it in the sun if you like it warm. Sheltered from the wind sitting on something black if you like it hot.

If it's been windy, and I haven't had any hot food because the stove won't stay lit, and it's too dirty for an open pan, and I'm tired of trail mix, I prefer ravioli from the can. That is usually the BESTEST evening for someone to invite you to a late barbeque when the wind has died down... oh my that is wonderful, after a day of trail mix and snacks, spent hunkered down and shouting in people's ears, thinking about maybe having ravioli out of the can. My dinner staple: chicken noodle soup, with crackers. add sun dried tomatoes... yeah baby. Ice coffee sweet with milk and maybe some instant cocoa.

Re: What's your favorite / must have food item on the playa?
We never use the RV stove (one of the main rules) because it makes the place too hot, but the microwave works fine. I always bring at least one package of Trader Joes Penne Arrabiata for around Thursday. Some good spicy pasta is just right, even if I didn't make it from scratch.
I always crave omelettes, but the no-stove rule makes that not happen. I usually eat one as soon as we hit Reno, regardless of the time.
Pickles, hard boiled eggs, chips & salsa, hummus...

GoGo Squeez Applesauces.
We threw a couple in our daypacks and it was so nice to snack on one out in the heat. Plus they aren't too chemical or unhealthy.

Re: What's your favorite / must have food item on the playa?
Amazake Almond rice shakes
Naked Protien smoothies
Kombucha
I seriously drank the shit outta these items last year and will be devoting a whole cooler to them. So satisfying and easy to digest for me. Kombucha is like vinegar, cuts the alkaline from my brain.
I also need (I know, way more than one, excited burner alert
Hard boiled eggs, pre peeled
Turkey jerky
3 bean salad with vinaigrette
salty potato chips, sweets & beets are good too
pickles
olives
energy bars
home toasted almonds
Cold pizza for the first couple days
Home made bacon bits
I dont like to cook or bring a stove or rely on anything, so this is basically what I eat. I kinda lame out on veggies but I eat enough the rest of the year so fuck it.

Same here, but we tent camp... propane camp oven rocks. We do buy the generic rolls, they do just as well. Trickier keeping them chilled, they like to pop open in the cooler if not sealed. Unroll the dough, insert precooked bacon, and bake. Mmmm.

Re: What's your favorite / must have food item on the playa?
We found single serve hummus this year, I usually never bring it because it is difficult to keep an open container from getting dusty/contaminated with cooler water. Same with peanut butter and pickles. Even olives in an envelope! I know, lots of packaging, but that's why we haul out our trash.
