Dried mangos! Can't get enough of these!
Salami, cheese, crackers. Great way to spend an hour in the afternoon.
Oh and of course BACON.

A simple can of chicken noodle soup was filled with salty goodness. I'll bring a few more next time.

Salami, pepperoni, string cheese, bacon, and whole grain pancakes cooked in the bacon drippings then served with butter and real maple syrup. Crisy on the outside, tender on the inside, and guaranteed to plug your arteries!

The ham and Tillamook cheddar on that fine bread (with mayo and dijon) was the finest ham sandwich of my life on Labor Day evening after packing up camp . . . God, I was so hungry.motskyroonmatick wrote:Mixed nuts, Jerky and Daves Killer Bread for sandwiches.
I had that same sandwich for lunch Thursday and Friday of this week.

Ooooh, Cat reminded me about the cherry tomatoes and seedless grapes iced down in the cooler. We usually got one of them out just before our afternoon siesta every day.

Jack Links beef nuggets are a favorite snack on the playa. All the flavor of beef jerky but easier to eat with the current state of my teeth.

Frozen cooked and peeled large shrimp (we get the bags from Costco in Reno). Leave out to thaw and a few hours later, they're perfect with zingy cocktail sauce and a cold drink as appetizers at sunset. When we want to impress our neighbors, we haul it out and you will hear mumbled groans of joy between mouthfuls. Nothing to cook and delicious.

Olives, jerky, BACON (so so so good), pickles, chicken soup, and the raspberry lemonade I used for mixers all the time.

Dave's Killer Bread is the best! I've kept it in a dry cooler for close to 2 weeks and never seen a bit of mold. Supposed to be all natural/organic, blah blah blah. I am not asking any questions about something that tasty that lasts so long.

Words cannot express the disappointment I feel in realizing that no one has said Spotted Dick.

I've left two cans of Spotted Dick at PineMom's house, and bet she still has them since no one ever seems to open it, let alone take a bite. It is supposed to be best served wih hard sauce.

Re: What's your favorite / must have food item on the playa?
Annie Chung's Miso Soup and the Pasta Bowls, other stuff in boxes and bags and bowls you can poor hot water on and make soft and taste good, pre-hard boiled eggs, pre-cooked bacon,I bring a few pieces of fruit and eat it up, extend its life in the cooler, bananas actually keep a while and go good on cereal with Horizon shelf stable organic milk. I bring more food than we can eat, but thats me. Yeah, I bring those cans of pasta like 'roni' and eat 'em out of the can. I bring some backpacking freeze dried bag meals. Not bad. Easy. Sometimes I take 'em deep playa like a picnic. I have an old RV but never use the stove to heat stuff up. I have a MSR Reactor back packing cook stove to make coffee. Great boiler and food heater, so fast, catalytic, almost no heat up. Uses little fuel, they are canisters. I'm one who has little appetite so I eat because I should. Food tastes good, I'm just not very hungry. So fast and easy is best. Virgins, the playa really is not a monster. Well, I live in the High Desert, so that caveat, but if I can keep it there, I can keep it in BRC. Coolers work, ice is for sale, learn to use coolers and ice before you get to BRC, but it's not rocket science. You can keep and eat reasonably well if you pay attention. So, pay attention. And if all fails, you can leave....

Re: What's your favorite / must have food item on the playa?
At the beginning of the week I found I wasn't very hungry but by the end of the week I guess my body adjusted and I was STARVING. I was craaaaaaving fettuccine alfredo, no idea why but next year I'm precooking and freezing some for sure.
I pre-cooked a pound of bacon thinking that would surely be enough, not even close, I blew through that by Wednesday, so next year it's 2-3 pounds precooked bacon for sure, because bacon was definitely my favorite out there. Oh, and V8 (which I hate in the default world, so weird) and pickled anything!
