Hey everybody,
I've sourced all the components for a Figjam-style 5gal swamp cooler, but have come up totally short on the water pump. I leave for the playa this upcoming Friday, so don't have time to order one online (which is what I really should have done all along- shit).
Does anyone know where I might purchase an appropriate 12V DC pump in the Bay Area or Reno? I've tried every place I can think of, but the only pumps I've found are either much too large or AC only.
Alternatively, if anybody in the area has an extra pump they'd be willing to sell, please let me know!
Cheers- looking forward to keeping it cool with you all very soon!
JB
Source for 12V water pump (for swamp cooler) in Bay Area?
Re: Source for 12V water pump (for swamp cooler) in Bay Area
That was one of the first problem that I ran into when I started this.
I wanted everything to be cash and carry because I had NEVER ordered anything online.
This late your best bet may be a small 12 volt bildge pump from a marine place.
Call a bunch and ask about pumps that move 50 to 100 gallons per hour that are 12 volt.
Good luck.

I bought mine at West Marine for $25. It's lasted 3 years now. They have several in stock.

Yeah, other than the Marine Bilge pumps I've never seen a 12v pump in the wild. Harbor freight should have the Bilge pumps. I've seen them at Walfart as well.
So zeke- you've run the bilge pump continuously for hours and its ok? Is it Noisy?

My swamp cooler is a Coleman brand roofmount unit on my motorhome. I took out the AC and put that in. I've ran it for hours with no problem. The fan makes the noise. I can't tell the pump is running. I don't remember the amperage, but I chose it because the draw was low.
