Re: Indian Tacos
We used to get Navajo Tacos in New Mexico when we were driving through there. They were awesome...

Think of freash bread dough rolled out to the size of a 12" tortilla.
When deep fried they puff up to a golden brown.
Add shreaded beef, beans, lettuce, onion, tomato, and salsa.
DAROOOOOOOOOL!!!!!

But can I count on one for lunch tomorrow ???? That's what I want to know.
I'm not a slut, I'm good time floozy!
Re: Indian Tacos
They're in the trailer on indian land on a small pull out.
They belong to the NDN TACO sign.
Fry bread or taco.
I get both.
Usually I'm in too early, out too late to get one.
Caught them once as they were packing out.
I'm not sure how early they set up.
Not early enough.
Taco bell is where the mexicans here go when they want american food.

I pulled into that one, but there was just a fire crew there and the taco place was already closed.
It was about 7PM.

Counted seven indian taco trailers on the way back to the I80. We stopped at the first one.

Re: Indian Tacos
Okay, craving satisfied. For anyone interested, the recipe I used was
1 cup flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 pinch salt
1 tsp sugar
mix dry ingredients, SLOWLY add water to form dough, form dough into a ball, flatten, fry in oil till golden brown, flip, repeat, enjoy.
topped it with lettuce, tomato, vegan cheese and vegan chilli
next time I might try adding guacamole or salsa
1 cup flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 pinch salt
1 tsp sugar
mix dry ingredients, SLOWLY add water to form dough, form dough into a ball, flatten, fry in oil till golden brown, flip, repeat, enjoy.

Re: Indian Tacos
Any self-respecting Indian taco would have beef or bacon in it. And lots of it. I thought I heard the ones for vegans were called Indian-giver tacos.
Re: Indian Tacos
Great food yes, but watch out for their driveways -- or lack thereof. I came close to tipping my bus over this year -- or at least it sure felt that way. Getting off the road wasn't so bad, but getting back on was sort'a like Evil Knievel jumping a school bus over a few hundred motorcycles.

Re: Indian Tacos
In 2010 we stopped at the carwash/taco stand in or near nixon. Sadly, both the carwash and tacos were marginal at best. While I appreciate the necessity of supporting local economies, if the service they provide is substandard, Im not going to support it, regardless of the cause.
We ended up at the truck wash in Fernley for a proper wash, and ate at the Wigwam restaurant. The best chicken fried steak anywhere. Huge portions and great service. The downside is that they are not open 24 hours.

You must have a hard time buying gasoline, much less bio-diesel.Straightveg wrote:Lucky me, my tacos don't respect themselves.Dr. Pyro wrote:Any self-respecting Indian taco would have beef or bacon in it. I thought I heard the ones for vegans were called Indian-giver tacos. And as far as indian giver tacos, yes, I expect an equivalent return on my tacos, in the form of the lack of guilt that I would otherwise receive from consuming a product that caused the death of a creature capable of feeling fear and pain for the sole purpose of my culinary enjoyment. Call me old fashioned, but if something or someone has to die, I want it to be for a better reason than my fun or enjoyment.[/size]

Re: Indian Tacos
Yeah, yeah, I know this thread has been dead for almost a decade, but what the hell, right? Does anybody know if there are any Indian Taco stands open during the fauxburn? I will be out there for just a few days beginning Monday, and I'd love to stop on the way in and have an NDN taco. I suspect Oasis 29 will be open, but if there are any smaller mom-and-pop outfits open I'd be more than willing to give them a try. Anyone know?
