Looking to 2013
Looking to 2013
If you missed out on tickets or never even planned to go this year (like me) but are dreaming/planning for next year, what are you doing? Planning, making costumes, waiting until 2013 tickets go on sale, just dreaming?

Re: Looking to 2013
I'm a newbie to the boards and a virgin to the burn. Excited to learn everything there is to know so I'm not totally clueless next year. This will be the first time that I've lived close enough to consider going (couldn't afford it otherwise). Any useful hits/tips that aren't covered in the overviews?

Re: Looking to 2013
I was going to go for the first time this year but couldn't get a ticket. I couldn't even get into the STEP program so I bagged it for this year. I will be there next year though. I have pretty much everything ready to go so I'm just gonna watch the live feed and dream some more.

Re: Looking to 2013
I drove across country from Georgia in 2010. Was my first time driving across country, loved it and yes it adds time and money to the trip. But no matter how far away you are you can get there!
I felt as prepared as possible be reading the burning man web page many times and reading as many posts as I could here about anything and everything.
I'm very excited! Thinking of supplies I want this time that I didn't have last time. I will be coming with my husband and it'll be his first time. Can't wait!

Re: Looking to 2013
Information about 2013 tickets might go out in November.
Even the past is not a good guide, as it's very possible that the current ticket system will be changed.
So, subscribe to JRS and keep watching the skis.

Weather reports say it's still raining tickets. Anyone on the fence can still hold on to the hopes that THERE'S STILL TIME TO GET OUT THERE.
That being said kids in our camp have been planning for 2012 since 2009. 2013 is right around the corner.

Re: Looking to 2013
This was going to be my first burn. But, with the whole ticket mess, I decided to wait and get one last minute. Unfortunately, I ended up moving this month, and couldn't afford to go. But, as I sit here watching the Webcast on UStream, I'm working on my budget and plans for next year.

I'm dreaming of next year too! Only watched a little of the stream, it makes me homesick.

Re: Looking to 2013
Skipping this year makes me want to go twice as bad next year but I have an offer for a cool orphan burn in Az and I'd also like to take a trip out for 4th of Juplaya with a side trip to see a crazy Pagan's Hof
We shall see what cards are dealt and played but it's def. weird sitting at work on the day the man burns instead of trying to get my shit in order for the trek out to open playa to actually see the damn thing go down in flames lol
whew!

I know the feeling. The best I can do this year is watch the burn on Ustream. Not quite the same.

Re: Looking to 2013
I was unable to get a ticket this year so the extra money goes to affording a higher tier ticket for 2013. I hope this will ensure a ticket purchase If not I may stick with the regionals in Utah or Oregon. But I am planning a 2013 burn one way or another. After seeing people dumping tickets a week before the event gives me a little more hope next year and I will keep my plans open. This year I made other plans once I did not secure a ticket.

Re: Looking to 2013
With the flood of tickets hitting the market pre-burn this year, I don't think there will be the same panic when tickets go on sale next year.

I think my friends will kill me if I try to start planning this early. Last year I think we had planning sessions sprinkled across about 9 months. Maybe I can just reserve a Budget truck now and leave the rest till the last minute

Re: Looking to 2013
I gotta case of the bittersweets!!!
This was my 7th round, I only missed 2010. It was hard to miss but I needed to catch up on my health and etc....Came back in 2011 and had the greatest burn of all time. This burn was almost just as awesome. I am so ready for more!!!
However my hubby does not and cannot attend Bman, and as much as he supports me going, I do need to take a few years off so he can go on a fun vacation, too. Its just not fair for me to use that time and money without him all of the time.
I still have my other fav event High Sierra Music Fest to rage a week and look forward to (and actually build art for) but we all know nothing is like BMan.
There are some pluses to not going! I won't have to deal with DECOMPRESSION! Oy vey!!!
It won't take over my world for 2 months at least....
My job will not suffer....
I will get to go to new places with my hub
and maybe I can branch out and find Burning Man in the rest of the world, get involved with other Burner communities and enjoy Burning Man. I will sorely miss Black Rock City, though. We all know there is nothing like actual BRC.
I will need to vent and get support because there is still so much to do out there and be a part of, I don't want to ever skip Bman. I am training my self to be grateful for what I have gotten out of it and all the years I have gone, and to not need more more more more more. Let it settle in and be GRATEFUL!!!! I don't want to be a spoiled whiny burner that just poo poos at the default world and constantly cries about "home". Ugh I just can't bare to do that (although I want to sometimes hahaaha) Put on the big girl pants and get some shit DONE in this world!!!! I love you BRC community, forevers!!!

Re: Looking to 2013
FIGJAM, you are amazing. So nice to meet you in person this year
As for tips for you new guys, I just got back from my first year. For months beforehand, I read every scrap of info I could get and spent a good chunk of each day preparing both my supplies and my brain. As it turns out, you can be over-prepared. I feel like I missed some of the wonder and amazement that a first-time burner generally experiences because I had worked so hard on getting an accurate mental image/understanding of the burn beforehand. Burning man was exactly what I expected it would be... and while that wasn't a disappointment exactly, it certainly didn't bowl me over like I thought it might.
Bottom line: learn enough to survive, but don't obsess over knowing everything. I know it's tough with so much time left to plan, but if you're anything like me, leaving some surprises to be uncovered out there is worth it.
