So uh, how do you describe Burning Man to people?
What is Burning Man?
My playa friends and I decided on two definitions:
"a lucid dream"
"an adult playground"
but I like to say simply
"it's very unsanitary"
'cause I mean all the beautiful messiness of life, open hearts and free flying emotions, uncensored existence, not just dust and people sharing utensils.

It is what you make it the experience is in the eye of the beholder. For me I volunteer with the dpw and fernley electric weeks before then I enjoy the fruits of my labor at the event. If people ask questions tell them to buy a ticket and experience it for them selfs words just don't do it justice.
don't take drugs buy your own

- Location: Where it's always... Wednesday. Don't lose your head over it.
It's just a camping trip in one of the dryest, harshest, most alkaline places there is, with nasty winds and worse duststorms, and the people? Gawd! You wouldn't believe it... half-nekkid AND totally nekkid men and wimmin, music blasting all day and night, theme camps where insane rites and rituals take place, The only facilities are overfull portapotties that, well, you can imagine, amidst a cacaphony of insanity, and the art... wooh daisy, what art there is... Naw, don't go, you'll probably hate it. I keep going back and it gets the same every year. Don't bother - visit Disneyland or something... You won't like it there.
Did I remember to mention it's the best frigging place on the planet, and damn near paradise on earth? >>grins<< Oops - Forget I said that. You didn't hear that. Ignore the woman behind the curtain, etc., etc...

It's part Camping Trip,
part Disneyland,
part Pee Wee's Playhouse,
part Mad Max,
part Mardi Gras (including the fact that that's gone now but will be re-born as something different)
part Gay Pride,
part Rainbow Gathering,
part Grateful Dead Parking lot and show,
part pyromaniacs convention,
part strip club,
part Carnivale,
part 60's, part 70's part 80's part 90's and part future.
It's part coming home and part going somewhere you've never imagined.
It's part childhood re-lived and adulthood revised.
It's inspiration and disappointment.
It's the best and the worst.
It's the most and the least.
It's nothing like any of the above.

Live as if everyone loves you and thinks you look great. Dance as if no one is watching.
"it's a bunch of hippies dancing around in the desert... it's really dusty... you probably wouldn't like it"
if they make it past that screen, it's straight to the no-cash gift economy stuff.
** when they're about to buy their ticket and make plane reservations i warn 'em that there might be a lot of people in various altered states a lot of the time. shockingly enough, i have known virgins to be freaked out by this if not forewarned.

This was my first year so before the event I simply said "I'll let ya know in Sept."
Now that I've been, my answer is: "Just buy a fuckin ticket and find out for yourself. Burningman is to personal to answer that question. There are 35,000 different answers for that question this year. The only way to know is to go."
