i don't allow you enough fucking "bandwidth" on my emotional range to muster sufficient angst to be mad and/or angry... and besides, "dogs go mad, humans get angry" as i was once told my Mary Smith, bookkeeper at Tobin's Jewelry store about 30 years ago.DVD Burner wrote:FUCK!

Fucking don't read this if it's not fucked enough for you:
geekster, I'm sure you have heard mixed reviews, as I have heard of the US system. Because our system is too 'socialized' and 'communist' you are going to hear bad reviews of it in the US. Because yours is based on money, we hear bad stuff about it here.
I'd bet that if you asked people who make under $20,000 a year and seniors in both Canada and the US if they are happy with their health care, there'd be more satisfied people in Canada. Yes Canadians go to the US for some stuff- generally, they are people who can afford to. If they lived in the US they'd have to pay for it anyways.
When we were driving home from BM, we drove by a family having a fucking car wash to raise money for their son's liver transplant. What?! I felt sick when I saw their sign. That is fucked. US seniors come to Canada to buy meds that cost them 2 to 4 times as much as they do in the US. That is also fucked.
We are only as strong as the weakest people in our society. If we can not look after our poor, our sick, our elderly...the people who really need our help...we are fucked.

I have the opportunity at work to either get in on a permanant basis (I'm a two year 'temp') or get fired. All I have to do is apply for the position. If I don't get the position, I get fired. If I don't apply for the position, I get fired.
FUCK!!!!
I got home last night, and, because our internet bill was paid in the wrong place, very late, our service had been cut off.
FUCK!!!
This morning, walking barefoot through my basement, I jammed a piece of broken tile into the ball of my foot.
FUCK!!!!
The volcano is becoming more unstable and is likely to blow sometime between now and 2012.
Cool!
See? It all evens out....

Fuck. My mom's in the hospital. Fuck. Anemia and other complications after a bout of viral stomach flu, she's 81 and hasn't been well all year. I fucking find this out after coming home from picking up Pico's ashes. Mom feels so bad she asked me to go get her jewelry and keep it at my house. This speaks fucking volumes about how she feels and how much she trusts her fucking grandkids.
Fuck, and here I was going to fucking complain abouut blowing $100 at the fucking Gem Faire on Sunday and then getting my insurance co-pay statements for the fucking brachytherapy on Monday. Fucking radiation is fucking expensive, but better than the alternative, i.e. slow death. Fuck.
And Larry goes back on the fucking road tomorrow morning.
Fuck. Stop it. Please.

so ST gave her story in Canada. I'll now try to tell mine briefly.
Oh, BTW, I have really good and pricey health insurance
I was diagnosed with a degree 4 shoulder separation. This means my clavicle (colar bone) had snapped it's 3 anchoring ligaments and was trying to liberate itself via the top of my shoulder. They gave me an x-ray, no MRI even though there was a massive amount of ligament and other soft tissue damage. Doctor recommended no surgery as I was not a pro athlete or manual laborer so a 100% recovery was not deemed necessary. Also, why risk surgery right? So, I go into physical therapy for 3 months and don't get much better. After much back and forth with the doc they finally agree to do surgery. Turns out I had a lot more damage in my shoulder than just the separation, all soft tissue that would have been detected by that pesky MRI they did not want to give me. So, 3 months of PT 3 times a week at $35 co-pay a pop. All wasted time, money, pain, and effort cuz the insurance did not want to authorize an MRI up front. Do the surgery and get sent home that night with one percoset and a presciption for vicadin which I find fuckin useless. I can't get a scrip for percoset, which actually works, cuz assholes like winona ryder are running around on goofed out shopping sprees on the shit and the justice department is scrutinizing docs who give it out as a result. 3 weeks later it's back to work and back to PT for 3 months.
After all is said and done, even with my spiffy insurance (which I do not get from my employer cuz they say I am not employed by them even though I have been here full time for a decade) I am out of pocket over two grand and my shoulder is not 100% due to the fact that it was over 3 months without the proper repair and 'relaxed' during that time.
Yeah man, the best healthcare in the world.

thanks for the story Stuart. I often wonder just what my blue cross will do if I really need it. Perhaps medical treatment in Thailand.....I have a friend who runs dental trips there...really high quality work at a fraction of the price here...hey if they can outsource our jobs, why can't we outsource our medicine? (prescription drug fighters are doin that now)

Maybe you're right, and eplaya is not a resource or possible connecting ground as I thought but has become more of a venting/spewing arena. At least right now.
Thanks to those who offered thoughts, maybe I'll pull something constructive out of this aside from all the naysaying.
Like I said, 'Healthcare? What is that?'
I have not had healthcare since, ohhhhhh, 1998 and that was just for about six months. And, before that it had been, well, a long long time.
I have been VERY FUCKING LUCKY!
So, since I am back in school full time the luxury of having health insurance is nill. However, I did shop for some coverage (funny thing when you hit a certain age and start thinking about this stuff) and found overpriced coverage with many many holes leading me to explore other options. So, I checked out what the county has to offer and sure enough, better coverage and luckily, I fit the county's criteria. I have to renew every year but, whatever, no prob. I will happily jump through those hoops.
Where am I going with this? Fuck if I know. Too much expresso,
