Quiet at the Temple burn?

It would be nice if there was a shared expectation for the Temple burn, but people can be such assholes. Silence, alittle respect and reverence are fitting, but then again, we are dealing with humans. That, after the combustable fire, are my favorite things about the burns. Add to that, no matter how much any standards would be laid out, it's not like everyone even reads the basic survival guide, or knows the principles, or LNT....

I didn't hear the Ava Maria choir, but there's always alot going on in my head. Yeah, I try to keep out of people's viewshed, conform to community standards, I'm a sucker for peer pressure. But some of us don't like sitting when out at the burn (some folks find it so hard to imagine that there are differences between us all, that they can't even fathom it), some people have metal for hips and find it difficult to sit on the ground and get up, some of us don't have a mutant vehicle or whatever. I'm not trying to ruin anyone's burn or get in anyone's way. Like the Godfather of Soul said, I'm just trying to do my thang. When told that I'm in the way i sit, or move. But, really, who has the unobstructed view? I saw short people sitting behind tall people, still with obstructed views. Even after the revolution there will still be heartache and obstructed views. If you are in the front lines, great, sit, but when you are sitting with your back to the double decker bus, expecting any life form in front of that random area to sit, because that is what would make you feel good....well....why do you get to decide that? Hell, wearing yellow distractes from my burn, if you really care for humanity, don't wear yellow. I sit when asked, I'm your punk, okay, but it's funny as hell listening to all the peace and love freedom hippies demand that others conform to some individually chosen standard. So I make fun of that. I first thought that playing Free Bird was wrong, but we sure laughed about it.
We must really suck.

What's up with the lazers? Seemed to be far less (good), like almost none at the Temple burn this year compared to last. And what of the rise of the drones? Having one of those hover us during the burn almost caused us to consider sitting for a moment.....

Bob's point is valid. Radical inclusion does not work in reverse, In our Temple We Yell and Shout, Sorry for the others but we are inclusive, they can sit quietly and cry about someone that isn't passive; we can, laugh, cry and point lazers.

You must be tall. Sitting down provides the best view and the most comfort for the greatest number of people. I'm 5'6, a couple of inches taller than the average female, and my line of sight gets *completely* blocked when I'm standing in a crowd just a few people deep, and this is amplified by the hats that people tend to wear. Sitting down, there is basically no problem. Sitting in one spot for hours is more comfortable for the vast majority of people than standing. Also, if you're sitting, any number of people behind you can choose to sit or stand according to their comfort, but if you're standing, you automatically FORCE the entire crowd behind you to stand. If you want to stand, why not stand behind the lines of people who want to sit rather than stand in the front and force everyone else to stand? The difference to your view of the burn is minimal, but the difference to the view of all the girls and shorter guys who can now see better is huge.

Oh yes, and on fire perimeter they told us to encourage people in the front lines to sit down because it helps us maintain perimeter, and adds a buffer for the folks who want to bumrush the burn. Just sayin'.

I've maintained and "encouraged" a Fire Perimeter, and it has jack shit to do with asking people to sit down. It is a Burning object, plain flat and simple.

The temple is a burning object for some for others it's much more. I get the meaning of radical self inclusion. But at the same time I get the conpcept of restraint due to sensitivity. if i see someone is having a personal moment I would give them there space and respect.

Sitting at the back FORCES, yes FORCES, all those in front of you to sit, the entire crowd. Especially when you start screaming at them. Thinking a crowd of thousands should conform to your comfort.....that's a mental illness my friends. I sat when screamed at, I eventually moved to back where the control freaks had less sway. Now I joke about it, and that is too much for the control freaks to handle. I did move, but it ain't good enough.

NO YELLOW NO YELLLOW NO YELLOW.....the vast majority agree with me and it is only for the sake of the community I demand you conform to my demands to not wear YELLOW at the temple burn. NO YELLOW. Otherwise go to the back of the crowd, you've violated the principles.

I sometimes like to stand up while in the temple, but I usually find a corner spot to do so because I like corners... yes... that cozy, little triangular, non-participatary spot of space that no one wants. But this year's architecture posed great challenge to corner-ists like me.

I am so over people telling everyone else how to act at the Temple. It is what it is, for some people that's a sacred space for others it's a cool piece of art about to get torched. To expect everyone in the city to react the same way to the Temple burn, or even to how they mourn their friends, is the height of arrogance. If you can't deal with the cacophony of emotions it brings to the crowd, maybe you should move away from the crowd instead of tormenting yourself into believing you can control everyone else.

I think this is more about an issue of request and respect than control. EVERYONE should have the ability to watch the temple burn. What people do inside the temple Or when it burns I can care less about. Weather you are there to party, mourn, or spectate is your business. Playing free bird was in poor taste and inconsiderate, but if you don't like the music choice bring some ear buds and your own music. To expect silence Is unreasonable. To expect some one not to play some shit over a sound system is beating your head against a wall. radical inclusion is not an argument for selfishness. Basic respect trumps radical inclusion. If you get you ass chewed for leaving respect at the gate then you deserve it.

I would rather hear a solid tune for someone than drunk hecklers, and sometimes tunes quiet others.

I was happy with where I was and if I wanted to concentrate more I would of gone to the front or worn earplugs.
