Hi, I booked a room at Super 8 in Sparks, NV through Priceline for Saturday September 1st. I no longer need this room and cannot cancel (Priceline is holding their grounds). Is anyone in need of a room? I can meet on the Playa and give over confirmation and contact hotel to make the name switch. Please let me know.

Dang, I wish I'd seen this before leaving the playa.
The only room in Reno that we found available was exorbitantly priced.

?????
Do you know how to use Hotwire? There were 4 star rooms for under $40 and others even cheaper available all the way up to the burn and after.

A passenger I picked up for a ride to Reno got the Barbie Death Camp deal by phoning up and making the reservation from the parking lot of the Sands 5 minutes before he checked in.

I am not familiar with Hotwire.
We were using Expedia and could only find an expensive room in South Reno.
This was on Saturday night, though. As the clerk told us when we checked in: "This is a bad night to try to find a room."

Hotwire is an awesome way to find rooms. The only caveat is that you don't know the actual name of the hotel until after you pay.. but this is how they offer such low rates being as that the prices are all below the minimum allowable advertised price. Select your region and select your star level you want. Like I said.. they had 4.5 star hotels going for $39 all the way through.

It was the rib cook off and labor day, they had plenty of demand.
Sooner or later, it will get real strange...

I guess the rib cook-off has gotten bigger over the years.
It used to be that you could drive down to Carson City and find lots of reasonably priced rooms.
No longer (at least, according to Expedia.)

Re: Super 8 in Sparks--Free room
If you get a room on Labor Day (monday) they're dirt cheap. We have a players card at harrah's and we have gotten a comped room two years in a row now, we just drop 20 bucks in the slots so they know we're active and get a free room. It's worth signing up just for that, the only thing better than a hotel room after the burn is a free hotel room after the burn.

It certainly has. It's up 20,000 heads more than expected, if you check the reported destinations of Reno vehicle rentals this time of year.

The driver for one of the ToFlame charter buses was poking fun at BurningMan for being the "small" event going on that week. He claimed the cook-off was twice as big at 100,000.
Keep Burning Man potentially natal.

I looked at their promo page here:
[url] http://www.nuggetribcookoff.com/About-T ... -Event.asp /[url]
They claim an attendance of 500,000.
That ~can't~ be right, can it?
