The Syncytium Maze

Yeah, sorry about the ladders. We had a few rungs go over the week and usually had them replaced the same day or night. Next time we'll use even more screws or brackets. Considering the traffic we had, I was quite happy that was the most serious replacement we had to do. Pleasantly surprised all the doors stayed on and the bridges held up - looks like all the test builds paid off!

And glad you liked the furry wall. We know at least a few couples, really, really liked it if you know what I mean...

Also, some memories:

I personally only saw a relatively small number of people go through it compared to those that must have, but hearing the comments on the exit bridge was very rewarding. Seems we got the frustration level just about right and people liked that they could get out when they wanted, just not find the exit easily. A few young kids said it was the coolest thing they'd seen out there - you don't get better than that!

And I wish I been there personally for it, but one of our nightwatch crew apparently stood on the centre bridge at 3am with a packed maze and yelled at the top of his voice "In 10 seconds we will be shutting all the emergency exits and unleashing the minotaur - good luck". Apparently one guy nearly fainted and was heard freaking out with something like "OMG! Nobody warned me about that - help me!"

The maze was one of my favorite features for sure! I went through it a second time a few days after making it through to see if I could remember the path... nope. Probably took even longer the second time. Thanks for the great contribution!

Loved the Maze, thanks for making it, the challenge was a nice addition to my Burning Man memories.

We didn't see it happen but heard about this (although it was from 7') from the people we had on duty guarding the maze that night (think this was Tuesday night). Although we had signs saying "stick to the bridges & ladders" it looks like they tried to walk from one bridge to another along 2" wide pieces of lumber with no support in the dark in the middle of the night. Not unsurprisingly that didn't end too well. We heard that they had a serious accident and were taken off for CAT scans.
The Artery contacted me the morning after and we went out to the maze with them to safety check it. They were happy that it was all structurally safe and that we'd put up a clear sign saying "don't do that". We added a couple of extra signs & lights on them just to emphasize it, in case anyone tried a repeat and as far as we know no-one else had any similar issues.
