Earlier this summer I went to Transformus, the first annual southeast regional burn, near Asheville, North Carolina (http://www.transformus.com/411.shtm#when). While there, I met this young couple from Wilmington, NC. They were veteran burners and fire spinners. They also owned their own restaurant in Wilmington and told me how that particular weekend was only their second time to be away from the restaurant on a weekend and leave the employees in charge. They said it felt like leaving their newborn baby with a babysitter for the first time. Altogether, we talked for about a half hour and then said our goodbyes.
At the beginning of the summer, I had posted a thread here on the eplaya soliciting for potential RV-mates. By early August, both my RV mates (DJ Big E and burningsteve) and I were in agreement that we would throw in together and rent an RV for Burningman (an experiment which worked out great for all of us, by the way - those guys are both awesome!). The plan was to fly into Vegas, rent the RV, and then drive up to BRC.
Then, about a week or so before Burningman, I saw a new post to my old thread from "Bash" just looking for a ride up to BRC for him and his lady. I replied back that we'd be happy to give them a ride up to BRC if they'd share the cost of gas. We agreed to meet at the Vegas airport on the Sunday morning that BM started. As far as I knew, Bash and his lady were some random burners from somewhere looking for a ride up to BRC.
Sunday morning at the Vegas airport, I pull up to the passenger pickup area to pick them up. I get out of the car, introduce myself to Bash and Marcy and we all hug. Then Marcy says to me, "You look familiar." People I have just met tell me this, no joke, all the time. I just shrugged and thought, "Yeah, whatever...I hear that all the damned time."
Driving down the road a few minutes later, they tell me they're from Wilmington, NC and that they had been at Transformus earlier in the summer. My reply, "No way! I was at Transformus too!" Then it all clicked, "Wait a minute! Now I remember you guys! You're the couple who owns their own restaurant and...blah blah blah"
Marcy's response a little later, "See! I told you that you looked familiar! You looked at me like I was fucking crazy, but I knew that I met you before!"
Us fellow southerners had a great time on the way up from Vegas to BRC, that is, until I blew a fuse and lost my temper at the greeters station, but that's another story...

I replied, "What the fuck are all these people doing in my house, and WHERE THE FUCK IS MY FURNITURE? God dammit, you let the cat out, didn't you? Now go get these goddamn hippies out of my house and tell them that the party is over."

forgot about this one...
when i was shopping at the hardware super store pre playa i kept picking up and putting down these coils of thin line, different sizes, different lengths, and i really had no reason to need them, just somehow thought i should bring them...for something. so i did.
on playa our resident camo netting experts were trying to add another section and stretch and lock down the netting after the wind storms died down, and i overheard them saying they just needed more line to tie things down with...so out of my little tent came the coils, and they were so happy!
i love that stuff.

At my first burn I got caught in my first dust storm. No goggles, nothing. Tried to make it back to camp with my dress pulled over my face. Was struggling and had thought to myself " MUST BRING DUST MASK NEXT YEAR" a paper one hit me in the mouth and I caught it at that exact moment. Still no one from my camp believes me.
Here's one from the darker side of synchronicity...
at our decom campout last weekend lots of yahoos showed up...one fell asleep, beer in hand, in a chair next to our burn barrel. Just as we noticed him, someone showed up with a Sharpie behind his ear....heh, heh.
Yahoo woke up with smiley faces all over *his* face.

note to self, no sleeping/passing out in the proximity of tisha.tisha2 wrote:Here's one from the darker side of synchronicity...

Haunted happenings @ BRC/Decom/Eplaya Forum
Okay this is a good one... between Burning Man, Decompression, and of course, this site. So... it is Friday at Burning Man and I look in the Vault guide and see there is a Monster Mash party at Mercury and 5:00 at the Black Rock Cemetery. Perfect thing for my creation. I put on this giant Skull head, top hat and black suit, that was supposed to be Baron Samedi, but everyone thought was Jack Skelly from Nightmare before Christmas. Oh well. I go to the party and I dance with a bunch of people and have a great time. I never remove my mask. Eventually, not wanting to blow my mystique I leave without making any introductions.
Flash forward to a few days after Decom and I am on this site. There is a girl looking for some guy and I try to look at the picture but it doens't work so I reply and tell her. Anyway, we start trading emails and she mentioned something about cemeteries at BRC and so I sent her the one picture my friend took of me in my get up... two minutes later I get this email, Oh shit... you have to call me!!
Turns out she it was her party and she had a bunch of pictures of me, etc. On top of that she is oh so awesome, and I have another BM freindship that will last forever. =)
See the pic and then see him burn...
