Can anyone crochet?
I am not talented in this department and need some help? we have about a 345 days till we go back again and winter is coming up. Would any one be interesting in helping me with a project? I want to make this dress for our playa wedding next year and can not make these pieces that are crocheted. Would anyone be willing to help?

Re: Can anyone crochet?
You can buy cotton lace. It's not necessary to hand crochet that.

Re: Can anyone crochet?
I have that lace on several pillow cases. Very generic, if it is still being made. Probably. Not inexpensive.
The fabric looks to be a cotton, definitely not linen. Lawn perhaps.

Raschel lace
http://www.ebay.com/itm/0116-1-2-Flat-R ... 565wt_1037
The amount of lace in that dress is a lot more than 6 yards. Hanging ruffles off of lace is tricky.
And the pintucks in the bodice, yikes. Do you have a pattern or just the picture? Not a dress I'd want to tackle and I can sew. Best of luck.

Re: Can anyone crochet?
looking on etsy and have no been able to find any lace that looks even close to it
that lace looks like it might be pretty danty to be able to hold up the fabric. but the pattern it pretty spot on.
nope no pattern. the only thing i am worried about is the bodice. i have never been the greatest about sewing them with out a pattern. but im sure i can find a pattern and make it work. im well in the boob area so it is a bit harder. the gathering im not worried about. im pretty good about that kind of stuff.

Re: Can anyone crochet?
I've also seen it called cluny lace. You need to figure out how many yards and try for a single lot so it all matches. I got mine on ebay decades ago.

Re: Can anyone crochet?
The skirt is gathers, made the way the ruffles are and set in tiers. The bodice is pintucks, each one sewed. Very different from gathers, although you could do it that way too.

Re: Can anyone crochet?
The tucks are sewn into the pieces, then the pieces sewn into the bodice. You could substitute a fabric with texture perhaps.

Crikey, just get a couple yards of lace fabric and use it as an airbrush stencil for bodypaint.

I think she's asking for crochet, not crotchety.

Re: Can anyone crochet?
I would love yo learn how to crochet as well as knit. Which is the easier of the two to learn?
Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.
Re: Can anyone crochet?
Crochet is easier. You can start with just a straight stitch and pick up others as you learn. If you have spare time it's a great thing to know.

Re: Can anyone crochet?
When you're learning, use at least medium sized yarn, (and crochet hook). Nothing too small. A $1.99 pamphlet will teach you.

As will the internet. I learned last year just using free "how-to" internet videos for some basic moves.... starting with a hat that started off WAY too small and then I hadn't a clue how to finish

which of course inspired my absolute favorite playa top

And I really have to say.... If I can do it ANYONE can do it

Re: Can anyone crochet?
Right now I can only find one crochet hook and it says 'G'. It's a nice medium size for learning. I never liked doing small stitches.

Re: Can anyone crochet?
Hey! Don't you have to get a playa divorce before you can have another playa wedding?'
I can't imagine you'd do something so unoriginal at BM as marrying the same person twice.

Re: Can anyone crochet?
the fabric comes puckered and is a cotton ( you could of course do it yourself by gathering up the tucks and wash and dry them while fastened into tucks
I do that and it works well..just also did it on a silk skirt I made
Also I really think the dress would have a far more flowing style if you put the inserted lacey portions in vertical rather than horizontal
good luck with marrying part !
all the rest is easy peasey
