Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
You can get all the vitamin D you need during sunny weather without getting a tan or a burn. 10-15 minutes of exposure to the arms and legs gives you 3000-20000IU. The supplements in my fridge are 1000IU. I only take them in winter or during long spells of gloomy weather. 10-15 minutes! Even I, Ms. Whitey McWhitersons, can keep my arms and legs in the sun that long without burning!
If you want drama to stop following you everywhere, try letting go of the leash.
Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
For most people, that just isn't the case.
Most people test low.
Some test way low.
I'm on 10K a day.
Sun has no effect on this for me.
I did get healthier and quit burning my arms with adequate vitamin D.
It has made a huge difference in every way.
The only way to know is to be tested.
There is very little that isn't affected by being too low.

Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
As a fair skinned freckled lass, I do work on a good base tan before the burn. If I'm not outside for long I will not where sunscreen at all, save the 40spf face cream I wear 365 days/year. When summer hits I go screenless for 30min- 1h before slopping on the spf for the rest of the day. By the end of the summer, I acquire a light browning. If you're red like a lobster, or brown like leather you are probably overdoing it.
I would rather risk a sunburn at home, where I can treat it easily and stay out of sun for a few days, than get a burn in the playa.
Regarding Vit D, I've never looked into mine, but everyone is different and should get educated on their particular needs regarding that (from credible sources of course).

Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
My calcium pill comes with Vitamin D. I do try for sunshine, but keep spf 15 on my face daily, even when I'm not planning on going out. Lots of skin cancer and osteoporosis in the family.
Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
Everyone should be tested.
There is no way to know without that.
Burning easily may be a sign, but you do not know until tested.
They recommend winter and summer testing.
The base supplement is now considered 1000-2000 a day.
My red haired friend tried to tan.
Never could.
The result of relatively low sun exposure, was malignant melanoma in the motor center.

I went to the gym today and had a great work out! I'm going again tomorrow! It felt good. So far my muscles are doing fine. Tomorrow will be the judge of how they feel!
Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.

Good on ya, MA! What type of workout are you doing?
Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
Rode my new bike to work for the first time this morning, coincidently on what is supposed to be one of the hottest days of the year. It was 18km from suburbs through the city center, and took me 82min. Only 21 C this morning, but its supposed to be close to 40 C with the humidex this afternoon, so I brought plenty of water for the ride home.

Got my first burn of the season spray painting volunteer t-shirts.
Gonzo and I are going walkies at the airport everyday to build up the upper thigh muscles. walk at home just doesn't do the job for that. I need to be able to walk all the fucking time. Still on a losing streak, but slow. Just keeping on top of daily exercise and eating quality food. Gonzo's on order to cook rice & vegetables for dinner daily.

I must say there's nothing like buying a beautiful shiny new pair of pants to encourage a good workout. But now my shiny new baby abs and my ability to do actual nose to the ground pushups are my real motivation now.
Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
went to a hooping retreat last week and hooped a total of 875 mins in 3 days...that felt good.
now I'm back in defaultia and slacked until last night. Hooping felt alien again...not sure what it is about doing it alone that just doesn't feel right anymore.
there's a spin jam on Sunday so hopefully I'll get more time with others then....gotta get the offspring to finish his chores sooner so we could hoop together

robbidobbs we're walking at work as well. I know how you feel about the slow and doing things daily to change things. We can do it. (right?)

Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
Ran six miles before work today. Since it's supposed to be 105 in Newcastle/Auburn, with the smoke in the air from all of the fires near by, it seemed like a good idea. News flash: 4:15 a.m. is a helluva lot earlier than it sounds.
Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
I had quite the day yesterday.
Rode my bike to work, so that in itself was 3 hours of exercise. Then I got invited by a friend to go to a yoga class at the studio that just opened up near my house. So I did 1 hour of warm flow yoga, where the room is kept at a temperature of 34-36 C the whole class.

(this was on page 2, by the way...)
I went to work on the push chair. Trying to do it once a week to lose some weight. But it's so tiring that partway through the day I go ravenous. Today I ate half a loaf of bread. I'm not sure that this is working out right.

Bear in mind that building muscle will add some weight.
Better to go by other measurements long term.
Fitness being one.

Have you tried tracking what you're eating, see if you're getting the right balance? I get hungrier if I'm low on one thing or another. Usually protein for me.
I have to get back to tracking, I use Sparkpeople. They also have good pages for tracking measurements and fitness minutes, even water consumption. Relentlessly cheerful though.

I WENT TO THE GYM! Yay me!
Pool was closed, but I did use the recumbent bike. Better than nothing. Still not tracking my food. I'll start with hydration tracking, to get beck in the habit.

Yay, you!
I've been back to dance classes/rehearsal and have gone running twice since I got back from the playa (which is naughty--bad for my wonky foot!) but I have not darkened the doorway of my gym, which would be a far better plan.

It is now clear what my best fitness program is: Living in Black Rock City. Over those nine days I took off something like ten pounds around my middle, had absolutely no back pain, slept like a rock, and generally thrived. There may be a lesson here.

The pool at the gym is open now. I stayed for the full class, it felt good. I was dragging tail on the walk home from the bus. Ate, took a real shower, and bam! Naptime. Knees hurt, but they hurt days ago. I'm am far too tired.

Re: ePlaya Fitness Club
Hey guys! I look forward to reading all your posts.
I have had really bad fatigue since this years burn....However I did DJ a wedding and do some other out of town stuff that took my decom time and revved it up, that was no good.
I am back to normal schedule, but still fatigue. I have been working out at the gym every day, it feels great and really helps me out....but something is still amiss.
Got bloodwork done, REALLY REALLY low on the D. They put me on 10,000 a day for a month, then down to 5,000.
Its all that damn sunscreen
I go in to get the whole panel read next week.
I hope my energy gets better....Its probably a combo of that whole week of crazy night sleeps, partying, being 40.....Crossing my fingers its not Chronic Fatigue or something scary.
Blessings to you all and here is to good health!! (even if we fuck it up sometimes ;p

Strange as it may seem, activity seems to generate energy.

I see many doctors get the levels up, then stop treatment.
And sun may not be a factor.
A genetic factor for vitamin D deficiency was recently identified.
There's still a lot unknown.
And I do think it's possible to get so exhausted it can take a long time to recover.
Well worth looking for a cause though.
