Whenever I hear "drink the Kool-aid", I was thinking it referred more to the Electric Kool-Aid.

Also: I got really excited about the concept of "Language Virus" and went a different direction. I was thinking more of a Snow Crashy kind of deal.

I need to get out of this Bar before I start drinking. :?

Have a sweat pants day. Have two or three. this is in the nature of putting on your own oxygen mask first. I am still recovering from a year of that compression and crisis.
Here, put your feet up, choose a movie, I'll bring you some snacks and put some cold beers down here where you can reach them easily.

Snow Crash changed my life too - though indirectly. I haven't yet read it (it's on a long list I've been meaning to get to), but the book served as inspiration to a couple developers (and burners) who then built the Second Life virtual worldspace/metaverse. My gf and I spend a lot of time designing and building things in that space and have met and worked with some really wonderful people we connected with 'in there.'

I'll echo what Elorrum said - have a sweat pants day (or two or three). Enjoy the downtime when you can.

Happy birthdays to those celebrating!

I thought Snow Crash was a over-hyped piece of tripe. I loved Cryptonomicron (no relation) and Anathem.

So, I'll have to give Snow Crash another read. It might have aged well, and might seem less annoying when you're not actually in the 80s.

But I don't think there's any excuse for the Baroque Cycle...

Hey I am back in my sweats now, wiggling around to A+D's Bootie MashUp dance party and (((Elorrum))) you are the best friend ever! *smooch*

Trilo, Snow Crash is a quick read (compared to most of that guy's work) and sorry Fishy it still resonates with me as being really real in a way that other treatments of electronic worlds never match. Totally with you on the Baroque Cycle, though, sheesh... Anathem was awesome, I wish I could read that again for the first time.

Drinks up, y'all!

aahhhhhhhhhh coffee........sweet black jump starting elixer of life........come to me, my sensuous dark maiden of cognizant rejuvination

Hi, and thanks MDF!!!
How's things with the fam today? How did the visit go?

haha I made a "score" this week, but also bit off almost more than I could chew:

"they" are resurfacing the highway past my road, and, as they do that, they "grind" the pavement survace, and turn it into gravel again.......well, still with the asphault oils in it, but it's gravel size......and it make great driveway surfacing.
So:
I went to them and asked to get a few loads. They said "how much" I said, "it depends on cost"
They said' "it's free" !!
yay!!

so I said 8 loads should be great! (knowing each load is between 8 and 11 tons, according to them).

so they said to make a spot, that would be easy for the trucks, and they'd bring it..........so I jumped on my backhoe and made a level area and area for them to turn around.

and the trucks started rolling in......

I was busy doing other things, and by the time I got back to check on progress.........they had brought 20 loads!!

in once sense "great"...........but on the other hand, this material, since it still contains the asphalt oils, and it's warm out.......will re-harden after a periond of time........turning into a 100 ish ton block of blace popcorn ball!!!
Yikes!!
So I've been busily spreading it with my backhoe, one bucket at a time shuttling it all over, since it's still in the *gravelish and can flow and be spread stage".......but it's "setting up fast" and becoming harder to scoop out.........

"be careful what you wish for"!!!

*flops in ROS for cartoons*
*strokes TV*

it's about 90 yds........asphalt weighs about 2 tons per yard, and I got roughly 200 tons (average 9 tons per truck 20 trucks)

I was throwing rough figures out.....but yeah, that'll cover 9,000 sq.ft. 3" deep. no mowing or weed eating for me!! hahahaaaa
