Re: One Item for BM a Day
my one item may be the letting go of an old old tent. Polyester rainfly is now so fragile, I couldn't stop accidentally tearing it when I was cleaning it. too much sun over the years. One pole is split too. just stuff breaking down.

Damn Elorrum...definitely sounds like you've earned a new tent. I bet Fall/Winter is a very good time to get one.
I've de-playafied most things except for what seems like a million plastic bags. These giant ones are so great for keeping clothes and costumes dust free (they really did work) but now I have to wash the fuckers. I'm thinking a cold wash in the machine with the vinegar/water/calgon mix. Will report back. Still to do also is a couple of mattress pads we used to wrap our bikes in...think I'll just spray them.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Purchased a yard of decorative chain for Eddie's vest (RHPS), some gold cord to fix my coat frogs, some plastic tumblers and a plastic bowl for shave ice on uber-clearance, more canvas boards for paintings, and two cheap king-sized pillows to fit in the fancy-schmancy king shams MyLarry for in the truck terminal dumpster. For our napping cots. A new clear hanging clothes closet, old one is thrashed. Excellent item for hanging costumes in camp.
And a skeleton lawn gnome for the front porch. Not for Burning Man. But strange as hell. And a pair of footie PJs with a skeleton on them for MyLarry, half price. He's so tall and skinny, the bones just seem natural. May or may not be for Burning Man.

It might be good of me to have a "One Thing for Real Life a Day" thread for a while. I have accomplished VERY little since I got back.
The other day I turned in a CD to the library, and paid some bills and it was wayyy too exciting.

Maybe once summer is over and autumn truly begins (rain tomorrow), I'll give up this inertia phase. I feel stuck, I've felt stuck all summer.
I forgot, we got three more giant S-biners. Huge S shaped hooks with a clip on each end. They're terrific for hanging up camelbaks or other bags in camp. Less clutter on the ground. They are not terribly expensive in the uniform shop.

Occurs to me you could get everything you need at IKEA, if you're 100 cm tall and you like cod roe in a toothpaste tube.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Oh thank you all for posting your slow or little progress...it makes me (and no doubt many lurkers) feel so much better about the tough work of playa clean up.
Washing the big plastic bags worked great in the machine with vinegar and Calgon. Hung them out on the laundry tree upsidedown...then flipped them for a total of 3 days airing out.
Today I worked ALL DAY and finally got the trailer finished. It's all clean, repacked with it's regular items, folded down and tarped for winter. WHEW! My studio still looks like a dusty bomb hit it but at least the piles are smaller now. I'm very motivated to get this huge job done because my thumb is FINALLY healing, and I can't do any work in the studio until all this crap is cleaned and packed!

I signed up for a sewing class so I can start figuring out this whole sewing thing. Way to much guess work on the few projects I did this accomplish this year.

After coveting button machines for over twenty years, I finally bought one! It is amazing. I loved the design of the Survival Guide this year, so I made a bunch of buttons out of our household's extra copy (keeping one copy whole since I like to hold onto stuff like that for sentimental reasons). They turned out so great! I'm excited to give them as gifts to friends, and to new friends at Decompression and next year's Burn.

I've been thinking about one as well. Where did you buy? What one did you get?

I would like to recommend a type of iced coffee in a can that I like. A chilled can would be good for a caffeine and sugar boost in the afternoon.
My health aide, Mrs. Sanchez, gifted me 4 cans of Seattle's Best brand of coffee. The specific flavor is Iced Vanilla Latte : coffee, milk, sugar, vanilla flavor, and ascorbic acid.

Two days after returning from the Playa I sliced off the side of my dominant thumb making scalloped potatoes for a dinner party. Three weeks later it's finally not throbbing. Sorry to hear about your infected hangnail...oooo those can really hurt!

THANKS! We love her too. But it takes a beating to be sure. I'll be needing to repaint her in the Spring.

This year was my first go at it. If you had seen my furry coat you would agree that I need the class. lol Next year will be full of fun costumes. I have many classes lined up to help me ease into it.

Very cool, I try to sew most of my stuff also - but the hardest part is getting the patterns to fit.
