Fill in the blanks
Song in my head this morning...
Oh oh playmate
Come out and play with
Blank
( some thing dolly three Blank)
Look down my rain barrel
Slide down the cellar door
And we will be friends
Forever more.

Blank

Look down my rain barrel
Slide down the cellar door
And we will be friends
Forever more.

"Slide down my rain barrell into my cellar door" is the version I remember...
Google offers this, if that helps.

Re: Fill in the blanks
The house and storm cellars had slanting doors..
As kids, we would find a cardboard or tin to slide down on..
I was one of the only kids to have an old tire of my own to roll with a stick.
The other kids had barrel hoops.
p.s.used tires were real rubber then. So they were all recycled to the war effort

This is how I remember it!
Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.

I remember it as
Slide down my rain spout
into the celler door
and we'll be jolly friends
forever more
one two three FOUR!

Can't beat that with a stick, but we'd go pester the grease monkeys at the auto shop a couple blocks away for used engine bearings and jam them onto the ends of whittled-down 2x4s to make super-fast street coasters that could do a 360 at the bottom of the hill.unjonharley wrote:The house and storm cellars had slanting doors..

Of course, we had paved streets, and didn't have to wade through snow uphill both ways.
Always loves jumprope songs. Mostly Chinese jumprope on my block.
Not last night but the night before
44 robbers came knocking at my door...

"say say oh playmate..."
when we got a little older we changed the words to "say say oh junkie..."

Re: Fill in the blanks
This runs through my head once in a while:
Once upon a time there was an engineer,
Choo-choo Charlie was his name we here.
He had an engine and he sure had fun,
He used Good 'n Plenty candy to make his train run.
Charlie says, "love my Good 'n Plenty! " ,
Charlie says, "really rings a bell! '. (Ding)
Charlie says, "love my Good 'n Plenty. Don't know any other candy that I love so well! "
