So I guess you're not aware that camp leads are responsible for people who've used their EA passes. It's not bizarre if you're responsible for people.
I'm guessing you're just ignorant.
It's also not bizarre to want to give limited resources to responsible people. Btw, what's your name, I'd like to make sure that I never give you an EA pass or a ticket-code.You can have fun on your playa-time with your own ticket.
Just want to say I'm not naive. I know what camp leads go through, at least up to a point. I almost sorta was one once. And I watched at the Booby Bar and at Apok and even to some extent at the ESD camps. I understand that people don't work after early entry. It's horrible. But the cure?
Troll? Plug and Play("/Turnkey")?
And I did my work on early entry, SO. FUCKING. THERE!
Proof that it doesn't work.
He'd have to pay me to take his early entry. A lot. 4 figures! I love Apok!
I think next year he'll have a crew of Haitians. And they'll have to sleep in a container with built in cots and he'll lock it at night so they don't get out!

Agree on both counts.
Five posts and he starts a war with the mod team!
And the whole ender series was great - but im sure he was aware of that when he picked that name.

Re: WTF
First year I did projects for the org I believed people who told me via email they'd show up and help. Actually, I didn't, and they didn't. I was glad for who *did* show up out of the blue and help, though I was happy doing 90% of the work myself regardless.
Different deal with the Early Absence passes these days, or not? I've always figured anyone is going to be useless the first day or two after they show up, unless they're coming up from Reno or Truckee where they're already mostly acclimated. Assuming they *do* show up they can at least straighten buckets of bent nails while they keep an eye on things.

Same thing in the real world.. Family crew was go to show up two hours ago.. Well I'm still waiting and working my butt off. This all starts with telling me I'm getting to old to clean the roof, Limb the fruit trees and so on.. Learned to just do it myself (only slower)

Re: WTF
I know that it used to take me a couple of days to acclimatize. The past few years it hasn't been so hard. Perhaps it's because I'm better shape.
And goathead, his information says he joined on Friday. I think that names don't get recycled after deletion...
Otherwise, some of our constantly re-up people wouldn't have to constantly change their names.

Re: WTF
I think the guy has been festering for a month with the need to punish people who did not live up to his expectations. There is certainly more to this story than he was willing to tell. Some times even the best workers get a little flaky out there. His need to control the fates of his "bad" campers is scary though and it seems that he may be overcompensating for a very small................................................................................................
ability to withstand the insult of being disappointed. I get it that he feels gypped, fooled, used, etc., but he is not judge and jury. So maybe he would not be as interested in "outing" these people if they had just brown nosed him a little more?
I had to call out people a couple of times this year to pull their own weight when the going was tough, and I wish I was better at it, or at least kinder, than I sound when I am annoyed.

Re: WTF
I absolutely understand the frustration of carrying more load than you are able and is fair. And, though I have not said it, I'm sure that word about these slackers travels in much less open places, than this board. Heck, I'm not sure that someone on this board could get away with it more than twice--given a set of beginning values that has him/her and his/her camp as regular contributing members of the board.
But...
I understand why we can't do this by name here, and why we don't do a lot of it by screen name.
If someone is bound and determined to get in on early entry dishonestly every year, he or she could, by working it could probably get away with it for years. I think it would be a lot of work, but some people enjoy the feeling of getting something for nothing so much that they don't see the work they do to avoid work as work.
(Yes, I'm starting a contest--anyone who can get two or more "work"s into that sentance and still have it make sense gets a used glow stick and a soviet medal.)

Re: WTF
I have been extraordinarily fortunate in getting volunteers pre-event that are both reliable and hard working. THANK YOU MOTSKY AND PLOWMAN!
Saying that, I have learned that the best way of getting a volunteer is to just get them in my car and they soon realize what fun it is to do the job! Promises and hopes are nice, but the proof is your warm butt on the seat! I've spent YEARS out in the sun doing the job alone, and if it weren't for Gonzo's help, I'd be out there still begging. The rule of thumb I learned at the beginning of my tenure (2001) is to assume a 50% flake-out rate overall. Harley told us this at a Greeters meeting, and I believe it. If you do better than that, be happy. It's hard to not take it personally. It's the volunteer coordinator's cross to bear. I'll say it again: I am SO grateful to those volunteers who jump in and do the job, even if they can only hold up for a couple hours. And I especially am grateful for the help I get from camps who recruit enthusiastic volunteers.
Can we get back to WTF silliness? I need to decompress.
