Fall Back one hour
Storm Sandy has brought attention to the emergency KIT..
Time change batteries in everything.. Even if they are battery/hand cranked..
Pour off the stored gas into the van and refill the jerry cans 15gal.
I eat out of my stored food and shop to replace every month. So eat up deep stored foods/water and replace..
Check medical kit for any outdated and replace
Remove and fluff ( in dryer ) stored blankets and shelter,
Wash KIT container and refill..
Start and run two generators.. Put in a small amount of fuel to run for a half hour.. Run fuel tanks empty.

Might as well make it a party while you're at it.
That's Sunday night/Monday morning at 2 AM.

Good and well.
But I would like to talk to the people who are in charge of this preposterous changing of the clocks twice every year. I cannot help but think that somewhere somebody is laughing his head off for having conned half the world into doing something so stupid -- something that causes so much confusion and wasted time, missed appointments and so forth.
Kudos to Arizona and any other state that refuses to participate in the madness!

Do I remember one winter when the Government decided they would Help The USA Save Energy, and eliminated this whole "fall back" nonsense.
We ended up going to school in the dark.

Oh, and Elliot, talk to this moron, it was his fool idea:

Re: Fall Back one hour
This phenomenon is easily solved. Countless businesses and organizations operate different hours by the seasons -- a garden center, just as an obvious example. Much easier to use logical "summer hours" and "winter hours" as called for, than to fool with something so fundamental as The Time.Ugly Dougly wrote:We ended up going to school in the dark.

Oh, and yes, Benjamin Franklin was brilliant, and wise and much more -- and also a notorious prankster. That just might explain it!

It's still a good bench mart (time) to refresh the batteries, fuel, food, first aid and the water filters.

Re: Fall Back one hour
During his time as an American envoy to France, Benjamin Franklin, publisher of the old English proverb, "Early to bed, and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise", anonymously published a letter suggesting that Parisians economize on candles by rising earlier to use morning sunlight. This 1784 satire proposed taxing shutters, rationing candles, and waking the public by ringing church bells and firing cannons at sunrise. Franklin did not propose DST; like ancient Rome, 18th-century Europe did not keep precise schedules. However, this soon changed as rail and communication networks came to require a standardization of time unknown in Franklin's day.Ugly Dougly wrote:Oh, and Elliot, talk to this moron, it was his fool idea:

I seem to recall him also doing some work vis-a-vis this thing called liberty.
Or maybe that's another Ben Franklin.

Isn't it, spring back, fall forward? Maybe this explains why I'm always 2 hours late for everything.

I love living in Saskatchewan. One of the few places that does not have daylight savings time...

Re: Fall Back one hour
Yes, that probably is nice. but do you know what year it is?
For a period of 170 years (1582–1752), both dating systems were in concurrent use in different parts of Western Europe. The Latin equivalents for O.S. and N.S., which are used in many languages, are stili veteris or stilo vetere, abbreviated st.v. and meaning "(of) old style", and stili novi or stilo novo, abbreviated st.n. and meaning "(of) new style". The Julian calendar had drifted by 11 days from the solar calendar (due to its excess of leap years), so dates differ between the systems.
to be a true believer you have to look at the stars, you have to be able to see the subtle differences. and of course that means you have to be sober during the Winter solstice, good luck with that!!

Re: Fall Back one hour
Daylight Savings Time still has use today with energy conservation, and often gets modified during "energy crisis" type situations to reduce power consumption. The most recent change was during Dubya's reign (2007), when DST was switched from April 2 - October 29 to March 11 to November 4. How much energy those 30 or so days really saved is debatable. All I know is that the switch coincided with the exact week that I had to travel somewhere in Europe so I had to deal with that DST clock change twice which threw me off quite a bit.

I hate dst.
They move up prime time tv, so kids spend less time outside.
Fucking brilliant.
Actually when it gets hot here, no one is going outside if they have a choice anyway.
It's calculated that morning accidents rise sharply.
Who could have seen that?
Now my computer has thought it is another time for a week.
I have to reset everything manually.
Those hours are worth something to me.
I don't use half my clocks because it's too much fucking trouble.
Half the tv stations have had different times all week.
Recording timers won't work.
If you want to get up early, get the fuck out of bed.
Fuck off

I hate getting out of bed while it's still dark. Unless I'm going hunting or something. But I work by the clock (unless the rest of you I guess). Better be at work, whether its still dark out or not.
Re: Fall Back one hour
In the summer here the sun is up around 4am, in the winter it is up around 9am. For me, it is weird to have the sun rise and set at the same time all year around...Ugly Dougly wrote:I hate getting out of bed while it's still dark. Unless I'm going hunting or something.
