Hey there ePlaya. Virgil here from the Netherlands. Been lurking on these forums and the subreddits for some time. Thought I'd come in and shout. Me and my fiancé are thinking of losing our virginity next year. Reading up and connecting to see what we can expect organising this!

Hi Virgil!
The Netherlands has a regional group, I think . . . if you're not already on it.

And there's an All-Europe list (and some others).

Greetings from SoCal! I'm a 29 year old Graphic Design Student at CalState Northridge (I had a late start, but i finish this year!) I was a regular LA raver from 2002-2007, i still go out and dance but only once or twice a year. I went to LA's Decom, and have lot's of friends that go to burning man, so I figured It was time I experience it for myself.
Next year will be my first burn and I just wanted to introduce myself.

PS, in case anyone was wondering, I hail from the Northern Air Temple.

Hello Joshua, Minxie and Virgil!!!
Re: Hello and Welcome... What's your name? Tell me about You
Hi my name is Boz. I had learned about BM about 10 years or so ago and heard from the wrong people that it was not the place for me. Again they were extremely wrong. I was convinced by a few friends that I should go this year. I did, and it instantly felt like home... I had been to alot of the BM fundraiser party's but had never put it together about what it would be like. Upon arrival I felt the warmth and the amazing aura surrounding the playa and the people. Instantly (after setting camp) I rode to see The Man... we connected instantly and he opened my eyes to what "it" was all about....Every morning after, me and the man spent sunrise together as I rode back to camp from Root Society. Slept a few hours and then went wondering again and again. So many beautiful people and helpful and loving and intenseness and conversations everywhere. People here are highly intelligent and really dont look down on those of us who werent ready to verbalize their every thought. Not really good at that, but now has become my mission from BM to do my best at being more personable. The burn of the man itself was intense for me, besides the connection with him all week, I had also written a letter that had all my "weights" in it. From my grandfathers death to , well thats for me and The Man to know... Seeing all of it up in flames felt like the "weights" were being burned away from my shoulders, I did cry, thinking about what I had written. In a crowd with a lot of friends close by, all of them saw my tears and one by one hugged me and told me they loved me. I had never felt such a closeness to anyone. Now they are def. family to me... All of YOU (BM) I consider family now... Thank you for such a great experience and will def. be there from now on.... Much love!
Re: Hello and Welcome... What's your name? Tell me about You
Welcome to your 'home away from home' Boz79, You are truly living proof that it doesn't matter how many times a person has attended ttitd. (That thing in the desert). You are family now. Not a raver that shows up the last 3 nights to drink and party. (Although family does that too.) I'm glad you found eplaya. It will add to your burn.

A piece of information you might need is that we tend to find it rude for people to ask for money on their very first eplaya post.

Well, hello friends! My name is Samera
! I live in San Jose, CA. I have yet to go to burning man. Every year I plan to go, something happens that causes me to not be able to. But I promise, 2013 is my year! I am born and raised a hippie and love like minded individuals. I'm always up for a good time and am impossible to embarrass, so if you like to have a good time we'll get along splendidly. Anywho, I work at bakery called Nothing Bundt Cakes which is home to some of the most delicious cakes in the world! On my free time I love to go out, hike, and make fun little knick knacks. Anyways...nice to meet y'all

Afternoon (my time anyways), My name is Nate, I'm a 20 year old art college student in Seattle. Never attended Burning Man before and only really found out what it was about a week ago. (I thought it was Guy Fawkes festival). Since I found out about it, I'm really interested in going. However it takes place during the middle of my fall quarter *sad face*. Looking for a way to hopefully attend 2013, but we'll see.

thanks for the link. I'll look it over, but unfortunatly for me, my art college is extremly tech heavy. Like using computers in a lot of the classes. I suppose I could cut back on that by seeing if I can take some non-computer based classes.

Misplaced New Englander
Hello All,
My name is Bob, and I am a native New Englander (NH) who was recently transplanted to Texas and loving every minute of it. I currently manage a production facility while working on my MBA so the chance to get away doesn't present itself often. I am really looking forward to the opportunity to get out, experience something new, meet new people, and be myself. I am making plans to attend my first Burning Man this year, which is something I have wanted to do for about the last 12 years or so, and I will be bringing my 14 y.o. son along for the ride. Really looking forward to getting out into the desert and meeting up with some of you.

Burner trapped in NYC
Hi! My name is Courtney I live in New York City and I am hoping 2013 will be my first Burning Man! I am a college student and study art history, not sure what I want to do after I graduate but it's been interesting enough to keep me from dropping out so far. I love traveling, my favorite place that I've ever been is the Grand Canyon. I have a twin brother and 3 younger sisters, me and my brother are the oldest. I'm an amateur photographer and recently started photographing concerts and festivals for a music blog which I love doing. I love smiling and hugging and if I make it to BM next year I plan to give everyone a hug! Love and light.

Re: Hello and Welcome... What's your name? Tell me about You
Hello!
My name is Anthony Oliveras, I'm a Senior at St. Edward high school and I am yearning to go to BRC in 2013. I've done some research myself, and a few of my friends and I would love to go to Burning Man 2013. A small problem, I'm having some trouble with logistics, I would appreciate if there was someone (preferably from the eastern side of the Rocky Mountains) to help guide me through my virgin burn.
Thanks, Peace!

Hi Courtney! I highly recommend you sign up for the New York mailing lists. There are plenty of New Yorkers who Burn, and meeting them might result in a rideshare or some stories over a pint about driving vs. flying.
http://regionals.burningman.com/us_ny.html
Hi Anthony!
First, will you be 18 by the time of the next Burn? That's your first hurdle. People under 18 need a legal guardian at the Burn. Secondly, guiding someone through their first Burn is a larger task than it might seem; finding a mentor is iffy. And Radical Self Reliance is one of the Burn principles . . . so you may as well planning as though you will go it alone (and/or with a few friends, but plan it in such a way that you can hack it even if they drop out, because they very well may become intimidated).
Start saving your money now, and add camping stuff to any holiday wishlists you have. (My first Burn cost me about $1,200, and that was done on the cheap).
Look up your area here and add yourself to the mailing lists in your state and neighboring states. Make Burner friends who are local; meet camps, and get in on their builds. But a theme camp is not a necessity. You can be a camp of one--or a camp of 3, or 5.
http://regionals.burningman.com/na_index.html
Even if you find a mentor, you'll want to read The Survival Guide linked below.

I'm glad you'll be 18 in time! Good luck to you. Stick around and read--the amount of helpful information here is tremendous if you're patient and diligent (and have a thick skin).SweetRas13 wrote:Hey Savannah!

My favorite way to mine ePlaya for information is to actually Google keywords + eplaya, such as: eplaya goggles or eplaya food. If you still get stuck on a subject and have to ask, people are nicer if you've clearly tried to help yourself before you ask others to help. Hard workers make better neighbors on the playa.
