Nah, our cats are all about making daylight hours work to their advantage. If anything, I think they like summertime long lazy afternoons of sunshine through the windows paired with dinnertime while it's light out and all the humans done with work.

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
I just penciled in all the events I wanted to hit for 2013. It will be a busy year, six regional burns plus Pennsic 42 and whatever flow art retreats I can work in. Once the dates get announced (not all have confirmed dates for next year yet) I'll know better. Burning Man is not on the list, I just cannot get my brain around the amount of vacation time it would eat, and I'd be on the road for about half the time. I'll still get a ticket, because yanno sometimes life happens. But to do TTITD would use as much (of next year's) time as all the rest combined.
I have discovered the ultimate question to life the universe and everything. "Does it burn?"
Re: The Bar, Volume #4
I don't understand why this would even be a question.

Hello and good morning (((everyone))).
*starts ECM*
Thrormr, obviously I am biased but I think that HELL YEAH coming to BRC is worth all the extra time and effort. I further believe that once you have been there you will agree that TTITD is more gratuitously wonderful than all those other events combined.
Yes it is.
*pours a tall cup of hot coffee and drinks it down*
Now go vote!

ah, Hi MDF!! thanks for the coffee......nice new avatar, sort of BRC/Matrix to me. HOT!
yeah, and Thor, I agree with MDF, but of course, it's your life. Do I understand, you'll get a ticket to BRC anyway, and then decide?
I voted two weeks ago........and have no dog in the prez. race. so, will sit back and watch the joy and pain of the day.
*makes CCCP and heads for ROS*
Hey FJ!! haha good one.........
and y'know, really, regardless of winners and losers, I do love the spectacle:
the greatest, grandest peaceful transfer of power and wealth administration in the world. Ever.
It's gotta say something, through all the bitching and crying, that it takes places peacefully and in a fairly orderly manner.

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
Yeah, I am a bit of a political junkie and I definitely do vote whenever the opportunity arises. I feel that if I don't vote, I really have no right to bitch about what the government does or does not do. I do have a dog in this hunt and have been working and contributing to his election. Following every poll just about 24/7. This is an important election that appears to me to be a referendum on FDR's New Deal. Politics has been a visceral sport from the time that Jefferson and Adams were fighting one another for their vision of America. And so it is now, except that now, there is far too much money involved. So, sort out your view of the wheat from the chaff and do get out and vote. Aserendipity, I plan to do so in about 2 hours from now. You all know that line, "vote early and vote often"! And yes, the peaceful transfer of power is a wonderful sight to behold and we are fortunate that we live in a place where that happens.
MDF, miss the old avatar. It is so you!

I don't know how peaceful it will be.
Lawsuits are already in place to dispute the outcome.
How far is that down the road from open violence such as other countries have?
Will it be in direct proportion to our polarization of ideals?

there are pre-filed lawsuits in every election. it's part of the game...if it's close, stir it up, see what happens.
I'd see it more likely to erupt in some small protests and fires and such, if Mittens wins. If it's Barry, it'll just be grumbling and such.

Hey all,
Well, got my paper ballot entered.. and though the Presidential race in this state is already seemingly shaded a color, there is a very tight Congressional race that I am happy to step up and help decide.
Thor, I have to agree with other comments here, there is nothing that I know of that compares to TTITD. I thoroughly enjoyed the drive out, and tend to think in terms of packing the truck and having everything squared away for the burn, but you might consider flying instead, if that allows you to save some vacation time. Junglesmack's box truck scenario seems to be very effective, among many other techniques. I hope it works out for you.

Moin Moin!
Yeay coffee! Yeay Thormb! 6 Regionals. damn, I'd have to drive to the Mississippi and Texas to hit that many.
I'magonna go poke around in the kitchen to see if I can get something like this goin on.

Political thread is down the hall!!! Here we talk about coffee, food, plans, friends, fun, TTITD. ect.
The World at large get's too large and the few sanctuaries some have are the ones they defend. FB is over run by by it and every person seems to be focused on one brass ring. I's just a Tuesday.
fuckit this is going to be like pissing up a rope.

Well, TTITD has two major selling points:MyDearFriend wrote:I further believe that once you have been there you will agree that TTITD is more gratuitously wonderful than all those other events combined.
1) Camping on the playa is a truly alien experience compared to primitive camping in a field. Just being on the playa is incredible.
2) Even if you don't like big cities, the size of BRC and the scope of the projects people bring is unparalleled. Seeing just how big these projects can grow is inspiring.
I am currently also in a place for which I am not planning BM in 2013, but attending regionals. I am still open to BM, but not planning for it. My reason is that I am simply travelled out, having been in the fortunate situation of going as far as China and Australia on work, and actually want a bit of a break. More importantly, I have gotten into creative illumination, and while BRC was the inspiration for this, with my current constraints on time and budget, I can only build the things that I want to build if I funnel my efforts within a day's drive. Not going to BRC means I have $1500-2000 to spend on electronic components, and that is some serious project money for me.
Plus, I think that there is untapped potential in these events. I was planning to "go big" for BRC in 2012, but when tragedy struck I ended up refocusing that energy into Alchemy. So my second burn became more about what I put into the environment rather than what the environment offered me.
Anyway, I brought back some breakfast from China:
It's um.... um... it's a... well...
oh, just eat it. It is pretty tasty.

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
Hi all! Just got back from the polls. Ready for it all to be over.
I feel extremely lucky to live so close to BM. Not going just isn't an option. Plus, being self employed, I can take as much time as I want. Before I started going to BM, I'd hit other desert areas for spiritual renewal-I'm just a desert rat in that sense. Driving into the places where people aren't just does it for me-and I need that wide horizon and desolation. But at BRC, I have the event to help me push my personal boundaries, not just the chance to commune with myself and get centered. Best of all worlds. And dirt cheap when compared with most vacations or psychotherapy!

*shuffles in*
I need a drink.........a big drink......big fucking drink, in a bucket.........
how, does someone you once were married to, turn into such a person, that would gouge your eyes out, just for spite?
then tell you they are not going to help send your (together) daughter to college, because she's too broke, while at the same time saying she's taking said daughter, to St. Johns (Caribbean) for xmas (leaving you home alone, for the first time in said daughters life, for the holiday)?
and then calls you an asshole, for stopping, to see if we can make a plan for our childs college?
*grumbles, grabs horseshoe and bends it straight, flops in IBBOD*
I may be a whisp of a man, but right now, I think I could put a thumb each ear of certain people, and pop their eyes out like concord grapes!! Or grab their ankles and make a wish.
fucking humans!!!!

Harsh news, Yggy.
I think the worst part might be that 1) she's being a harpy in general and 2) Christmas is not going to be what you'd hoped.
. . . College costs way more than a trip to the Caribbean (so it's probably like . . . why not, what the hell) but I wish you could be with her.
*hugs*

Sorry about Xmas Yg, but if your daughter is anything like you, I would do the college planning with her, as she may be able and willing to take up the slack that the ex won't.

Thanks for your nice words about my new avatar pic! And Marty, sorry you like the picture you took better, of course, especially as I had just risen from your massage table when you took it!
But my son Archie took this new one. I had been sleeping in my hammock, after an overnight EMS shift, when a big dust cloud rolled though and completely covered me. I woke to raucous laughter from the guys, and Moonrise scolding them for such callous disregard for my health.
I stood patiently for a photograph, once Archie uncovered his camera... a total Dread Pirate moment.
And oh yeah I voted TODAY Bob.
