Hello from Illinois!
Hello from Illinois!
Hey Everyone!
My name is Monica and my best friend Celeste and I are preparing our virgin burn! We've basically been planning for the past few years and now that we both have steady jobs we decided to go through with it for 2013. While we both are very excited for this adventure both of us are feeling somewhat overwhelmed but we are doing as much reading and research as we can to make sure everything goes smoothly. Im looking forward to meeting all of you!
cheers,
Monica :)

Hello Monica! Welcome to eplaya!
(and welcome Celeste vicariously through you.)
I wouldn't be too worried!
You have over 9 months to prepare!
In that time, make sure you read all the "Required Reading" and look around eplaya for any questions you have. Almost thing you wonder about someone else has probably wondered too. And, in the event you can't find the answer feel free to ask.
By next August you'll be super duper prepared and ready to Burn!
Also, maybe get on the Jack Rabbit Speaks (JRS) news letter.
What part of the country/world are you in?
(and welcome Celeste vicariously through you.)

Didn't I read that the Illinois quota was already filled for 2013?
Don't bore your friends with all your troubles. Tell your enemies instead, for they will delight in hearing about them.

You're gonna have to put your name into the lottery and home that spot opens up...
Though, you're lucky you're not Canadian. That waiting list is over a year long.
Better luck next year!

So what exactly does this mean? There is a waiting list for tickets and I needed to sign up previously or what?

Only for people from Canada, Texas, Iowa, and sadly for you, Illinois.
There might be others but those are the only ones I'm aware of.

Re: Hello from Illinois!
OK. I'm actually just pulling your chain.
I started feeling bad that you might be calling your friend and freaking out and changing all your plans.
There are no quotas for how many people are allowed from what region/state/country/planet.
Just keep your eyes and ears peeled for information about how tickets will be sold this year and you'll be fine.

Welcome to eplaya.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

no wonder i can't find a ride share

Re: Hello from Illinois!
Hi Zebrah, it is terrific that you are already planning, because you'll have time to become more and more familiar with the challenges and potential solutions that you will encounter while spending a week on the playa. This way, as your plans evolve, as they often do, you will have a stronger base and sense of things to help you make good decisions that work for the two of you.
Eplaya is full of great ideas, experienced viewpoints, and some joking around too! Have fun!

Hey there!
I'm new, too.
I live in Wisconsin right on the WI/IL stateline.
Are you near the Quad Cities, or further south? (If you want to share that info, of course:)
