Hello everybody. My name is Joseph, or haha. It will be my 5th year this year and im stoked! i am tryin to meet more of my fellow burners on eplaya for this year. People I want to get in touch with are any passionate 'FREE THE YELLOW BIKES" people, and anyone with help/advice for art cars especially made from a golf cart base. Along with that, have there ever been firetruck art cars out there? i dont believe ive ever seen one, and with all those crazy burners burnin out of control, i think a firetruck would be nice. cheers! see out there!

Hello! My name is Hannah i'm coming next year from New Zealand. I have a a question and am not sure where to ask it. I was wondering, when it says it finishes on the 2nd, does that mean that is the day everyone leaves? Or everyone leaves on the third? Sorry if this sound silly! and thanks for any help in advance

Re: Hello and Welcome... What's your name? Tell me about You
You can leave (and enter I suppose) whenever you choose. Personally I leave on Sunday, which will be the first. I don't even wait around any longer for the Temple burn. Some people leave right after The Man burns (Saturday, August 31), others wait as late as Tuesday or even later. It also depends on whether or not you plan on staying in Reno or have a flight to catch, and out of where.
Re: Hello and Welcome... What's your name? Tell me about You
Welcome Hannahab, I leave after the man burns. If I was coming all the way from any other country I would stay for the temple burn. (If possible).

You can leave even later, Hannah, if you're willing to help clean up.
Re: Hello and Welcome... What's your name? Tell me about You
Hi Hannah!
Most people will leave the event on Sunday September 1st, or Monday September 2nd. These tend to be high traffic times. 50,000 people trying to leave on a two-lane highway = many hours to get out. 3-4 hours is average for entrance or exit. My longest exit time was 6 hours in 2011. Some waited 8+ hours that year, due to accidents on the highway. Get a good sleep the night before you leave; the week itself will tire you enough. And pack your food, drinks and sunscreen where you can get them while you wait.
In response to 2011's insane Exodus, the 2012 Exodus was oddly well self-policed, and attendees spaced out their exits remarkably well, beginning before the Burn of the Man, in some instances. Wait times were average, and even below average.
There is likely to be no waiting at all if you leave on Tuesday, September 3rd, but driving 5 miles per hour and forming a queue to leave still means you need at least an hour before you hit blacktop, even once the city has cleared out.

Hi everyone, my name is Kaya
next year will be my first Burning man and I'm already super excited...any suggestions for a first timer (currently planning to come on my own)? I've already visited festivals and traveled by myself but I think Burning man can be quite a bit of a challenge, especially being on the other side of the world from my homecountry

welcome kaya!
the only suggestion I'd come up with is to read the materials on the main Burning man page *survival and first timers guide* and do research here, read through lots of the informative, helpful threads.
After you've sort of "brushed up", feel free to come on and ask questions and such.
I say "brushed up" because asking easy, obvious and apparant questions can at times bring a load of "snark" on your head.
But jump on in, make sure your skin is thick, and join us.
Where are you from? "other side of the world" might indicate somewhere in the Indian ocean?

Re: Hello and Welcome... What's your name? Tell me about You
I've already read the first timers, survival guide and did some research, yet I still want to learn more
Since I'm traveling quite a long way and by myself, I really want to be prepared with as much information as possible. But you're right, I'm sure I still have quite a lot to read
I come from a very, very small green country in central Europe, it's called Slovenia
Thank you for the warm greet's by the way!

Re: Hello and Welcome... What's your name? Tell me about You
Hi! I'm Riv. I live in the Boston area and have been to Firefly (the regional burn around here) 4 times... saying I'd go to Burning Man "one of these years" for too many years! 2013 is the year
I'm trying not to overplan too hard (especially since a lot of things beyond the basics will need to wait until I know who I'm camping with, and not many of my friends who go have really started planning for next year in earnest yet). But this board is such a great resource, so I'm "delurking" now!
Oh, and I'm definitely interested in making art of some kind, but am not sure whether to do so on my first year. Most of what I do is small (jewelry-scale) and I don't want to just give out "trinkets" or things that might become moop... I'll be thinking it over some more (maybe the solution is assembling many small things into a greater whole of some kind?), but if you've ever received any playa art as a gift that was small/trinket-like but meant a lot to you, I'd love to hear about it.

Re: Hello and Welcome... What's your name? Tell me about You
Hi Riv! Welcome to the board.
I like to give jewelry to mark a shared conversation or adventure or a new friendship. I make pendants myself (a few per year). A popular motif among jewelry-makers is the symbol of the Man (basic or detailed) + the year, but many folks opt instead to make jewelry that represents the Burn theme, or their camp name, etc. You can really do it anyway you want.
The more meaningful the previous interaction with someone, the likelier your gift is not to become moop. You are not expected to gift everyone, or at random. You do not have to gift because you were gifted, although of course you may.
Give because you are moved to do it, or see a need (as with functional gifts).

Welcome Kaya, Yes!! Jump in. There is a certain amount of, "The Playa provides". The rest you will have to prepare for. Since everyone over packs and is generally generous, you won't starve or die. Do your best to prepare and come on.

Hello all!
I'm Mark! A littering, lazy, judgmental sparkle-pony! Ha! Actually, I'm a Philly boy who intends to visit the playa for the first time in 2013. Hopefully, I'll make some eplaya friends that I can track down this year. Also, I'm trying to figure out where I should camp, so maybe I'll get some advice on that topic as well. I've been browsing many of the threads and informational posts here and really want to thank everyone for being so helpful.
Cheers!

Don't be in any hurry to find a camp. Unless, of course, you have a weakness for Soviet Russia and the one-time Eastern Bloc.

Hi Mark!
You can meet a metric fuckton of us at the ePlaya Meet & Greet on Wednesday of the event, 6-9pm at Barbie Death Camp & Wine Bistro. Potluck & great fun. Address to come, under this thread and others:
Eplaya Meet and Greet 2013 - What are you doing?
http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic. ... 23&t=62918
Some theme camps will recruit here in a few months in the 2013 Theme Camps thread. If you want to be with a theme camp, write them a letter about your skills and personality by March or April. Choose something that fits you, so that the work & camp fee don't bother you.
http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewforum.php?f=323
You can also look through the 2012 Theme Camps forum from this past year, and email or message the ones who seem like they've had multiple appearances. Odds are, they might be back.
Note also, you can camp solo (you'll have neighbors) or with just a few friends, and have little responsibility and complete autonomy.

Hi Mark, (he he High Mark), Anyway....Welcome. Wheather you camp in a group or alone you will revert to your comfort zone. You'll hang with others or venture out solo. If you want support on this first trip join a camp. OR you can just read and post here every day and ask questions, do research. Join Eplaya. No dues and no dishes to wash. Again, welcome.
